I don't need the door just the door check the part that keeps the door from opening to far.

Went to the pick and pull today. That must be something that breaks often. As soon as I opened the door panel up, the mechanism was lying there on the bottom all sheared to pieces. Sorry I was not able to help. But I will keep a eye out for you.

Trying to remove the old QP off the car so I know where to cut the other one at. Like they always say, Measure twice, cut once. Well that saying is so true with sheet metal.

You can use one from a coupe or sedan as well. They also interchange from side to side.

I don't mean to threadjack but I could not for the life of me figure out how to get it out of the door when I had the SE still. I unbolted it, but nothing seemed to work, so my GTP still needs one

That's awesome to own that much land. I have 500 acres, but it's pretty much useless. The inside of that barn looks nice. Most of the barns in the country around here are all 100 years old and are in need of desperate repairs.

I aint that lucky or rich to own that much land in Tx. Its a good friend of mine and he rents me out the ranch house and the barn is included in the deal. Hopefully be buying the house, barn, and a piece of the acreage sometime soon.

  • 3 weeks later...

Got a few hours today to mess around with the project. I decided not to replace the entire QP, but only the rear half. I will be butt welding the 2 panels together and then using a hammer and dolly to finish the metal properly. Now that the QP is off, I have noticed some rust on the inner fender that I will have to address. Nothing to big, but will have to make a template of it and then bend me a new piece to replace it. I will keep the progress updated as I hopefully will be doing some of the metal replacement this week.

thanks, I will end up cutting out the rusty area and then making a new piece out of sheet metal. I have sheet metal bender, english wheel, shrinker and stretchers, plenishers. So it will not be a big deal to create it. As far as minor surface rust areas, I will just scuff the area with a quick strip disk and then coat it with some por 15 followed by a undercoating as a top coat. I will be sure to keep the pictures coming as I progress with it.

Got a lot done today as I had a free full day to mess around with the QP. I got most the welding done and now just need to grind spot welds down and fill in any areas that need it. I did not take a lot of photos, but mostly because I was in my zone and kinda forgot lol. I also was able to use the inner fender off the new QP being it was a rust free texas part. Saved me lots of time and also keeps the originality in the corner of the QP.
