l67 new beetle swap/build/driver thingy

Recommended Posts

Hi, im new to the l67 (or any variation thereof). I got bored one day so I got on craigslist to see what I had to offer. i bought a totaled 2001 ssei Bonneville. not too much damage but the insurance company thought other wise. After searching the forums I wanted to come up with a 1 of a kind swap that would be easy and cheap to build, be unique, and be a sleeper. I found a 1998 vw beetle. then I got to measuring and cutting. sorry for some reason the pics are not in order. I cut the Pontiac at the firewall. then I cut the REAR floor pan and trunk floor. measured and notched the vw frame. I put the Pontiac subframe and unibody in place and started welding and plating. then I cut the rear deck out of the Pontiac and placed it over the engine in the rear of the car.

Well, that's a unique L67 swap. Do you work for/own an auto dismantling/salvage yard? I spy lots of engines in the right-hand drive VW pictures. :D

does anyone know how to bypass the transducer in the ignition key?

Most people have the PCM reprogrammed to do away with the passkey/theft setup.

I knew a guy that took a older 2dr VW Jetta and made it rear wheel drive. The motor/tranny was a V6 with a 4-5 speed, I wanna say it was something like a quad cam or twin cam or something like that,,,,

when he was finished you couldn't tell anything was modified just by looking at it until you got close and looked behind the seats, then ya could see the motor where the back seat used to be,Open the trunk lid and you would see the exhaust pipe dump and the battery box, Pop the hood and then you'd see the fuel cell along with lead weights to keep the front end on the ground when hammering the throttle. That thing was crazy fast.

He built it to run on the ice just because he thought it would be fun to do. I wish I would have gotten a few pics of it now,,, I sure wont ever forget going for a few rips with him in it!!

either through the pcm programming or through the passkey simulators that you can make or buy cheap ones from ebay. id suggest the pcm programming route as a nice generic tune would be all sorts of fun with that stockish motor in a lighter car....sorta kill two birds with one stone...

hope to be done sometime in janurary

haha faster than 15 years on or heap of a project lol

rhd vw?!? where ya live?
