white4d96
dune buggy project. With the smallport motor? Nonono. This thing's a fucking ticking time bomb, hence me wanting to chuck it ASAP. Although I still kinda wanna do a crazy LQ1 Locost or something of the like
Jonpro03
1G =/= 2G mani I don't know anything about the CTS.
white4d96
But can I use the 2G mani's, is my question.
Jonpro03
they won't have the right downpipe location.
white4d96
Crap. So I guess I'll be porting my manifolds. Wait, large port manifolds were 2G only correct? Or am I missing something here? Edited April 1, 2011 by white4d96
tornado_735
this thread is turning interesting.
white4d96
I hope that's a good thing and not a WTF STOOPID NOOB thing I just wanna have all my bases covered before I start ripping shit apart. Jon, Bob, what did/were you guys going to use for exhaust manifolds? If I was going to build a DP could I use other manifolds? Push comes to shove I guess I'll try making a front log but idk if I'll be any good at that...
Crazy K
I recommend the 1997+ rear exhaust manifold, as it flows better than the log. and that is what i would do...
RobertISaar
if you're going to go with a custom downpipe, you can use pretty much any 60V6 exhaust manifold from gen2 upwards... the stock 3500 front "semi-header" is nice, though it MAY get uncomfortably close to your fan brackets and require modding of the dogbone mounts. BXX
Yeah, the Malibu and G6 route the front exhaust down below the engine, wont work in our cars.
white4d96
But I can use 97-03 exhaust?
Jonpro03
It'll bolt up to the engine, but not your downpipe.
white4d96
Okay. How far off is a 2G downpipe going to be? Is it 'cut a foot or so off' off or 'WTF!?!?!' off?
RobertISaar
worthwhile question: is the 2nd gen downpipe as bad as the 1st/1.5 gen pipe? as in, there's a huge as restrictor and it's double walled?
BXX
Just get a custom 2.5" DP made. Should run around $100 to $200 at a decent exhaust shop.
Jonpro03
That's too much money, run no downpipe!
RobertISaar
That's too much money, run no downpipe! i, for one, am not fond of carbon monoxide poisoning.... though i guess it would allow you to tune fuel requirements by smell... Crazy K
any 97+ gen 1 or gen 1.5 w-body will have the correct downpipe to meet the newer 97+ rear manifold... I have a clean enough used 97+ downpipe, I was just going to cut and clamp myself.... i doubt any other vehicle will have a factory downpipe that has the clearance to fit in our cars... white4d96
Just get a custom 2.5" DP made. Should run around $100 to $200 at a decent exhaust shop. Around here, try $300+. I'll just have to try my hand at making my own.
RobertISaar
where's the pic of Adam's downpipe when you need it? to be fair though, my welding work doesn't look much better if any.
Jonpro03
FWIW, I just had my downpipe fabricated for $60 at a muffler shop.
