Nothing wrong in bringing your lunch to a salvage yard, just hide the beer under the Mt. Dew. Its not impossible but you do end up fighting a few different plastic clips while holding the dash with your knees at some point, IIRC. Just expect the upper sun soaked area to be brittle when you`re handling it so it doesn't crack. A factory service manual has very nice diagrams that show every mounting point.

Positive/power for the compass is shared with the auto-dimming wire, meaning a compass on any auto-dimming mirror requires no additional wiring. That wire is run to a source that only comes on with power/ignition. The LED map light mirrors have an issue because one of the wires is tapped into a courtesy light source so that they can come on with the rest of the lights when you open the doors or turn on interior lights. That is apparently where the problem lies, because the courtesy lights on '00ish and up vehicles were quite often controlled by a BCM, so without that, the LED map lights continuously draw a small amount of power (about the equivalent to a 194 bulb according to @GnatGoSplat). Not positive if that applies to these Sebring/compass-less mirrors, too, but it would be hard to imagine they had 2 virtually identical mirrors with different circuitry in them.

If I understood correctly, the battery drain issue with the Intrigue version was due to the heater grid in the compass VFD being powered by the always on power lead for the map lights...which was ultimately controlled by the BCM in its original application. Since your mirror doesn't have a compass, you might not experience the same drain issue.

This is the wiring diagram for that mirror. The only wire I don't include is pin 3, which disables auto-dim in reverse. Pretty useless feature IMO, so rather than adding more complication for my customers (have to tap into a reverse light power source), I just remove that pin from the connector.

I had the power wires backwards. Not sure if the auto dim feature works and/or if I'll have to add another wire, but the map lights are working. Hopefully it doesn't kill my battery

How difficult is it to pull the dash on a 2g Grand Prix? My 03 doesn’t have ECC(only a 97-2000 option) and I’ve thought about adding it. This entails pulling the dash on the 03 and the donor, and installing the donor dash and climate control features on the 03, along with I’m sure much wiring(this has never been done before as far as I know, I’d be the first.) So Saturday I’m driving out to milwakee to get a bunch of parts for my 03 from a 2000 daytona(rear bumper,trunk, steering wheel, spare hud and bezel, performance shift shifter etc etc blah blah blah) and guy says I can be there as long as I need to pull stuff, so there Inlies my question, how difficult would it be do pull the dash on one of these, is it an all day thing? I know it’s not super difficult on 1g cars, but I have no clue on these

They must have junked two of them because there were only 2 when I looked before I went today. They were both base models, unfortunately. However, I did find a Sebring that I didn't know was there. Just need to figure out how to wire it now.

I wonder if you could have a more serious problem though. If you filled and bled it completely, your coolant should never fall 1/4 below the radiator neck. The light coming on when that happens would be normal and expected. When the coolant expands and contracts, it should be pulling from the reservoir and never add air to the system. Air getting into the system when everything is properly bled and sealed implies possibility of head gasket issue. You might want to pressure test or try one of those head gasket leak detectors.

So nope the low coolant light is still on. I thought repairing the broken wire would help. Not related at all I guess. I would like to find an nos gm oem sensor. Just so expensive and it probably won’t fix the issue. You could have just a 1/4 of coolant below the radiator neck and the light goes on. When I top if off in the radiator it goes off. It seems to only go on when I service the cooling system and have to bleed all the air out of the system.

The 1995 factory manual said to use silicone grease (GM 12345579 or equivalent) on weather-stripping. If you have tried something other than silicone grease, how is it working for you? An older post mentioned Gummi Pflege instead of silicone grease. I am getting ready to do maintenance on my convertible top, and was just going to use silicone grease again, but am interested in hearing what products people are currently using.

No factory anti-theft of any kind in these. My guess is if you have an aftermarket alarm/anti theft that is where I would start

I reckon you could find an entire car with a good LH0 for less then the cost of a reman engine. Then you can at least drive it and put a known quantity in the car I'm so scared of reman things these days, you might get something good, you might get a even bigger disaster then what you have already.

The 2 that I linked to are the mid-'00s auto dimming with LED map lights (with and without compass). No HomeLink, no outside temp. The no compass is from a 1st gen Sebring convertible, and the compass one is from the Olds Intrigue GLS (has to be that trim level). There's an even rarer version of those mirrors that had temp as well, but those were only available in mid-'00s Wranglers and Range Rovers. Not something I'm going to come across in a self-service yard very often. I DID find one and only one once...in a Regal of all things. Obviously added in by a previous owner. I was beyond shocked and ecstatic. It was the first mirror to sell when I launched the website. Doubt I'll ever find another one. The one you linked to (the "fully loaded" one) is only found in the 2nd gen Dodge Stratus, thus the amber colored display. If you end up getting that one, you can always try wiring everything up like normal and see if there's a draw on the battery while the car is off. If there is, you can always disconnect the courtesy wire so nothing is reliant on a BCM and just leave the constant power wire so the lights can be turned on/off individually when you need them. I can't see anyone putting a list together for all this because it would be quite the daunting task. Even for me, after all these years of hitting the yards and coming across all kinds of mirrors, I'll run into something I'm not familiar with. I remember years back when I found an Intrigue GLS, but was disappointed to see it had OnStar. I looked underneath it for the hell of it and found it had the same LED map lights as the non-OnStar auto-dimming mirrors! Did not know that was a thing all those years. Think I've only ever found 2 like that.

I've driven it, but I haven't really tested out the braking capabilities yet.

I thought the one I linked and the first one you did were the same one. I could probably deal with the MAP lights only coming on with the buttons on the mirror. I guess temperature in the mirror would be a good thing to have and easy to add a sensor. One of these days I suppose I can go the the yard and go through the aisles and just look for mirrors. If I know what vehicle I'm looking for, I can check the inventory ahead of time, though. There has to be someone somewhere that has made a list of what vehicles came with what mirrors. I do have an OHC from a Grand Prix with MAP lights. I wonder how much of a hassle that would be to fit in the Monte.

The one YOU linked to from my store (the "fully loaded" mirror), I'm not sure about to be honest. I know the 2nd gen Stratus had a BCM that controlled the courtesy lights, but I don't know if they killed power to them after the car is off. The 2 that I linked to in MY post we know definitely need a BCM to kill power to them, and ever since discovering this, I've been hesitant on suggesting any LED map light mirrors to people with older cars that might not have a BCM that controls the courtesy lights. I suppose a work around for any of the map light mirrors would be to not power the one wire that's supposed to run to your courtesy lights, and just run the other wire to a power source that only comes on with ignition or accessories (your old mirror should already be wired for that; just have to figure out which wire it is). But that would mean the map lights won't come on when you open your doors or turn on the courtesy lights. They would only come on independently when you press the map light buttons on and off. If that doesn't bother you, then you can make those mirrors work. Also, just a heads up that the "fully loaded" mirror you linked to has outside temperature which will require a temp sensor to be installed somewhere by your front bumper and then running 2 wires back to the mirror. This is true for any mirror with the outside temp feature. I know you don't like the tension ones, but if you want to maintain the courtesy light function of the map lights, then the one in my pics is probably your safest bet to avoid any constant draw issues. I'm not even 100% positive on those because I just looked it up and Gemini says even the mid-'90s Caprices/Roadmasters did have a BCM and they controlled the courtesy lights, but given their age, I doubt those mirrors have a constant draw on them that's controlled by the BCM.

So, the one I linked to (from your store?) is that the one you have to kill power to? If I can use that one, I might just buy it from you, then. I hate removing the tension ones from the junkyard, but I do have the tool. Yeah, the Donnolly ones from Regals always fall down. The one from my GP was falling down, but they are easy to find. I guess it doesn't matter too much if it has the compass and/or temp, I just don't need to have them. Since the Monte didn't have an OHC, I pretty much need one with the MAP lights and the auto-dim is a nice bonus for sure.

rearviewmirrorstore.com is actually my site. I was just checking on visitors for the day, and I saw someone was directed there from w-body.com. I was like.....what?! Then I came here and found this. That's a pretty rare mirror you linked to. As far as I know, they were an exclusive option in the Dodge Stratus, and as you can imagine, there's not a lot of those in the junkyards anymore. It's what I call my "grand daddy of them all" mirror, as it has pretty much every feature other than a back up screen, thus the price. You're actually pretty limited on choices if you want auto-dimming with map lights. Donnelly made them, which were even found in 2nd gen Regals, but Donnelly mirrors are garbage. The auto-dimming gel is pretty much guaranteed to break/leak at some point, and I'm guessing the gel must be acidic or something, because eventually, they start deforming/eating through the plastic housing of the mirror. I have seen this time and time again in the junkyards and in the w-body community. Have helped several GTP owners switch from their Donnelly (no map lights) to that mirror in your last pic. Very easy swap. Another option is the optional 1st gen Sebring convertible mirror. Same mirror was available in the mid-'00s Lincoln Continental and Olds Intrigue GLS, except those had a compass as well. The problem with any of those, as me and Sean have talked about numerous times on this site, is that they require a BCM to kill power to the mirror after X amount of minutes. Otherwise, those mirrors will have a continuous draw on the battery. Enough so that they could kill the battery if you don't start the car after a few days. They were an exclusive option for the '90s Chevy Caprice and Buick Roadmaster, so they'd be period correct for your Z34. Only downfall is I believe they use the tension spring mounting instead of a torx screw. I have a few that are still sitting around. This is what they look like:
