3100-3400-3500? Swap info?

I was studying the 60 degree V6 site in the history of improvements and I was wondering on everyone's suggestions. I want to pick up a yard motor to play with to swap into a TGP. First off is the question about the heads, I have seen many use the different 3100 and 3400 heads over the years but for maximum flow I determined the later 1.76 intake heads were more for what I wanted. But I was told by some that there are different valve guide set-ups. All in all I just want to build a full roller 3400 to drop in down the road. So I guess here it goes a commonly asked question from a member just getting back into the swing of things. From what I was looking at I am leaning towards a 2003-04 motor but maybe that isn't the right route?

either a later(02+) 3400 if you want something that will almost drop in place of a 3.1 or the 3500 if you want to put some more work into it for the extra power it offers. 180HP/205TQ vs 200HP/220TQ.

the 3500 runs just a slightly higher compression, but the heads flow so much better than even the other gen3 heads.

That is what I was wondering also was the 3500. One route I was thinking is a 3400 with the 3500 top end. What modifications are needed to run the 3500 as a whole? They tend to pop up in the yards and heck 200/220 as a start point never hurts. Otherwise the 3400 setup is still a good improvement but I was looking more at improving flow over that restricted factory setup.

3500 (non-VVT version) requires a new throttle body, crank trigger... those are the big ones i can think of at the moment.... i believe one of the engine mounts need modified to clear the exhaust manifolds as well? obviously, you'll probably need a new(or modify) the downpipe, the 3500 manifolds are a bit different than the normal 3x00 style. the tubular 3500 manifolds flow a bit better than the log style. i forget what they come off of though.

Hmm... I am tempted to grab one for the heck of it. I want to keep grabbing TGPs but you can only save so many. I really need to finish what I already have and or would like to finally get a serious project going. Thanks for the info if I sell a car in a couple of months I may get a 3500 and a 3400 to put on stands and start tinkering.

Your welcome. 3400 is by far easier and cheaper, unless your planning on trying to set some sort of record with power, in which case 3500 is already ahead in that game.
