i know a friend on the net who really loves their sunfire...they race it too and know alot about wat we talk about. They told me they wanted to replace their 2.2 for a grand am engine to which i stronly advised against...Now the question is, wat engine would fit this body style car? 3.4 DOHC too big? (hehe) And wats the link for the sunfire boards? i was thinking of maybe telling them to join these boards but it would better suit them if they speak wit they own kind, right?

by the way, she's a gurl

Current body Sunfire or previous?

A 3.1L will fit in a previous body Sunfire.

I don't think any V6 will fit easily in a current body, but I'm just going by appearances so maybe it would...

3.4 DOHC is too big for even the old body Sunfire! Jeremy Gonyou put one in a Sunfire (see http://www.geocities.com/jeremygonyou/) but it didn't really fit... a lot had to be modified and a lot had to be removed to make it fit.

If this is a new body style, I'd just put the 2.4L DOHC in it and turbocharge it.

The older versions are called sunbirds. In 95 it changed to the sunfire.

If you want to swap, 2.3 HO quad 4 or a 2.4. Both have more than enough potential for a street/strip car.

You can try over at http://www.v6z24.com if you want to swap a V6 in there. Its easier to stick with a 2.4 though for computer reasons. I dont know when they started putting the 5 speeds in the sunfires though. I think I remember someone saying they werent an option till later (maybe 2000?).

You can also try the J body area on http://www.gmforums.com but I have no idea how many people area there.
