Swapping out rod bearings without taking engine out

I have a 94 gp with what sounds like the beginning of a rod knock when the engine is warmed up, i know on a 3800 you can swap out the barings with the motor still in the car by pushing the top bearing around the crank journal and out. Is this possible with the 3100 and what do I need to do to take the oil pan.

The subframe is in the way. In order to remove the oil pan, the subframe will have to be removed.

If it is knocking, you likely need to replace or rebuild the engine.

3.1 MPFI LH0 constant knock or tapping sound

Hello there, totally new here. I am glad to have found this here, lots of valuable infos! So I am the proud owner of a '90 Lumina sedan, with the 3.1 MPFI, or LH0. Since I got it, it always made this slight knocking sound, not like a rod knock, but still annoying. At first it only did it when cold, but it slowly started to do it constantly. Last night it was pretty bad, I could hear it very well even with my windows rolled up. Even at idle I could hear it. Maybe I should have worried about it earlier, but what's done is done. I know the 2nd gen 3.1s were known for knocking for a few reasons, most notably the infamous piston slap. Some people told me MPFIs were prone to that as well, some told me my engine was shot and to just let it blow up What do you guys think? I don't really believe in magical fluids to reduce the sound, since the problem by itself won't be fixed, but I could try using a different engine oil. Apart from that I don't know what to do or where to start really. Thanks for your help

No, further back. You get a lot more noise in the car, where you're actually closer to the rear exhaust, than you do with the underhood shots. So definitely give that exhaust system/muffler a good inspection for leaks.

3.1 MPFI LH0 constant knock or tapping sound

The Gen II 60 degrees (2.8/3.1 MPFI) aren't known to have "piston slap" like the Gen IIIs are. If it's knocking loudly, something is probably well fucked and no magical fluid is going to fix that. That being said, a video would be extremely useful.
