Rear suspension freezes

I've been having a problem with my rear suspension during very cold weather. The suspension will totally freeze up when the temp gets below 20F. It won't move an inch. When I stand on the bumper and try to bounce the car, the only thing that gives is the tires. This only happens during extended cold spells. I have the FE1 suspension and it is completely stock. Anyone else have this problem or know what causes it?

Dude, my wife's Lumina had that exact problem! I had to pull it into my garage to warm up, then it loosened up. I think what happens is some moisture gets in there and freezes up when the temp drops down low. Either that or there's some kind of valve or something in there that locks up when it gets really cold.

It only happened that one time, but I know the rear struts are old and could stand replacement.

Just a theory, best I could come up with!

Yeah thats what I was thinking too......moisture freezes and locks everything up. I'll tell ya though, if you want to feel a stiff riding car, just ride in mine when its below 20!

Sounds like both of you have old shocks.

Your right though, as the tempreture drops the oil in the shock turns more viscous.

It's not a bad thing, more of an annoyance than anything.
