Yes it will fit. Hell, people are swapping LS1's into first gens now.

1 person has done it. It is not a common swap, nor an easy one. Not to mention we are FWD and that is a RWD motor. So tranny, engine, and some mad fabbing to get it all to work.

Besides, nobody has done that to a first gen yet. Doubt they ever will.

i'm not used to these newer motors but is it anything like the generation 0 chevy motors: a 400 is the same size extenally as a 283? what kind of provisions would need to be made to make it fit in a W? i've noticed on most if not all fwd versions of motors something on the back of the motor is different compared to a rear wheel version.

240 whp for $5000? thats cheap

Well for about 5k or under I can get a complete L67/4t65eHD, and all the parts to swap it, plus have some cash left over for mods, and should be able to hit very close if not to that number.

anything else you'll give or just stop the hating

What? If you are implying that I am "hating" on the 2.8 you are wrong. It is decent reliable transportation. but thats about it.

I'm done with this thread, I'll be back when a 2.8 can be fast.

Ingredients for a fast 2.8:

1.) Length of strong rope

2.) '97+ GTP w/ trailer hitch

Step 1: Tie the rope to the cradle of the 2.8 car

Step 2: Tie the other end of the rope to the hitch on the GTP.

Step 3: Get in the GTP and slam the gas.

Step 4: Call 911 cause the engine is on fire

Yes the answer to anything and everything is L67.

You guys like really, REALLY need to get out more. GM has engines out making as much, or more power, without a blower. Why has it become like the end-all be-all solution to anyone's desires up in here?

Yeah, no shit.

Matt, you can't just make a generalization that all boosted cars can tow.

PS-Soccer guy whatever his name is put a N* in a GTP. 5speed RWD.

That was an INSANE swap. I wonder if it's all done yet. Last time I checked it was really close!

it was done, but IIRC it's apart again to fix something.

Well, I bought the 3.4/5speed setup he had. Last time I talked to him (last summer IIRC?) was on aim and he told me he was waiting for a turn key.

  • 3 weeks later...

i was thinking about this a little more and came up with this: a 2.8 crank, 3400 block combo would be good if it barely meets a displacement limit, right? (again, like what chevy did with the 302 in the trans-am races)

Huh?

Most towing is done with boosted vehicles. (I.E. Semis, Trucks, Bus)

These are also diesel engines...which are built to withstand >17:1 compression ratios and >35psi worth of boost. Case in point, a Cummins B3.9L I4 engine weighs roughly 1.5x as much as an old school cast iron GM 454 (7.4L) V8. They're only a "little" more stoutly built :)
