Ok so my '93 Lumina has been leaking since November. from November until recently, i have added brake fluid, as the BRAKE warning light has come on about once a month. Occasionally, white smoke could be seen coming from the right rear wheel well. now just today, the light came on only about a week after being topped off. fluid can also bee seen escapong from the holes on the LEFT rear rim! brake fluid has also COVERED the inside of the rim and the back of the tire. Should it be taken in soon? could i be risking causing damage to the rear brakes if it isn't taken in soon? i really dont have a lot of money right now, but i certainly dont want to risk further damaging the already-fragile rear disc brakes that were just replaced in september. thanks

The rear brakes are already damaged. Sounds like the piston seal is busted.

If you had it done at a shop, you could go back to the place and say WTF to get them to fix it.

how much do you think it would be to get this fixed?? darnit, this car would be wonderful if it weren't for these stinking rear brakes!!!!

A reman from Autozone is $35 - $69 with lifetime warranty. You should probalby replace the pads as well since they are brake fluid soaked. They are another $30 or so. so best case you are looking at $65 + taxes.

They are pretty easy to replace yourself in the driveway. If you have done front brakes, you can do the rears. the only difference is the rotating piston and e-brake.

could also be a broken line, or the bleader valve. I would take the tire off and have someone start the car and step on the brake to see exactly where the fluid is coming from. Either way, your pads are prolly soaked and need to be replaced again.

The piston seal, as Glock said, is most likely the culprit. They are fragile and easy to break when replacing pads.

My rear brakes went less than a year after they were replaced. I would get them done IMMEDIATLY, and upgrade to the 94+.

Anybody figured out how to get the parking brake working after the 94+ swap?

alliright, this is much more manageable than when i had to have BOTH calipers replaced in September. and a rotor, too, because one of the calipers seized up and destroyed the poor thing.
