I have to take off the side-pan of my transmission, its a 4T60, in a 92 Lumina. To do this, I was told i'd have to take off the driver's side half shaft. What parts/special tools will I need to do this? I already know I need to get a hub socket, but what size will I need to buy? Will I have to replace the gasket on the side pan, and will I have to use axle grease when taking out the halfshaft?

um no special tools needed i guess over 1" socket for the axle nut

all you have to do is

break the axle nut loose this helps because 150-220 ft lbs torque is easier on the ground to break loose (i can't remember if this is nessecary just to do the side pan)

support the car

take the nut and bolt on the ball joint out (IIRC about this)

take a pry bar and hammer pry the control arm down while tapping the hub that surrounds the balljoint

after that pry the axle out of the trans with the pry bar inbetween the trans and the cv joint

hope this helps and good luck
