cryptnix
Would like your guy's opinion. I've been working on removing the paint from this car and whatnot to get it repainted. The under body, is so so ... probably 75% and 85% "OK" for Michigan. I have a new sub frame for the rear.. Thanks in advance. This is my first car so there's some sentiment value to it... should I man up?

55trucker
^ x2 on that.......you start with rust you never get rid of it without a great deal of effort and expense. If you consider your time to be worth something to you...get a clean vehicle, which would you rather be doing?.......driving it ....or....rebuilding it. when you find that good vehicle take the steps to keep it in good condition. I assume that Michigan like Ontario is a salt haven in the winter.
RobertISaar
currently going through this myself..... if I would have known it would have been half of the work I've gone through, I would have scrapped it that day and dumped ~$1300 elsewhere. from what I can see in those pics..... that isn't that bad, by comparison. cryptnix
You can actually buy rockers for these cars per a few folks that have these. I'm doing the tip hammer test in several areas right now on it. It is pretty sound, overall, except a few areas.
Mark 1997 Cutlass Coupe
That rust isn't that bad, at least what you've shown. I would check the undercarriage of the car to see if any of the suspension mounting points are rusted, or if the floors are bad. If you like the car, and want to save it, go ahead. Obviously it is your call, and if it is otherwise a clean good running car, go for it. It would probably be a good idea to do it now before it gets any worse.
