lots of work, really wish the whole car was solid in color (the stripe color is B.A.) a lot of work and i applaud you for that, just not a fan of the stripe or the white outline.

Did you really paint over the wheel weights though?

Bumping an old thread

Eric and I went to Back to the Bricks last night (a big Flint car cruise/gathering/show) and saw Tim? driving down Saginaw street on the main stretch, in the huge long line of cars. We turned around and tried to catch up but lost him, and ended up meeting a few times on the street and chatting. I snapped a few pics of it parked in the garage, but nothing spectacular. It was awkward as expected, but very cool guy and good looking car. No more stripes on it either

anyways, good to meet you, at nice looking car  I'll post the pic or two I took sometime soon

also, would you be interested in painting a few things for me? (front and rear bumper covers, and a hood/louvres)

shouldn't be a problem! I'm busy this week, but ill let you know once I get my work schedule for next month.

And not to sound conceded, but the vert does look pretty good! Not 100% perfect, I'd give the paint a 8/10. It just really really really needs a new top. And sadly, were saving up for a house, and won't be spending money on a winter car. So it looks like the vert is also the winter beater. :(

Just try and keep the salt off it as best you can, wash it often. That's about all you can do really. I'd suggest maybe oil the doors, fenders and all that. But mostly try and keep the salt off and you should be fine.

Pictures of the new paint with NO STRIPES!

You should be able to tell this is a much higher gloss than the first job, I used PPG's economy OMNI clear (MC161) and added 10% reducer to it to help it flow a little better. I used some store brand econoclear on the first job and it was very thick and tough to work with.

Also, we didn't get any pictures of the work, but we actually had the left rear quarter replaced. (from the very bottom to about 6" up)

A small section of the hood was also replaced where it was rusted through, and a spot above the rear wheel wells on each side about 2"x5" each.

We were going to get the rust repaired on the trunk lid also, but it was so badly rusted, it was going to cost a extra $100, but we found a 100% rust free lid at the yard with a lip, and even grabbed the tails too for $75! :-D

Also, we re-painted the wiper arms, as the original coating was chipping and rusting.

And just for reference, here's a journey of from the original ugly green to blue with stripes and shoddy clear coat, to a finial solid Bahama Blue Poly.

It wont be for a little while before I'd probably need it done, as I have other things to worry about, but if it's something you'd take on, let me know what kinda price you'd want, and maybe help me out on getting paint (and matching). It'd probably be both front and rear bumper covers, hood, probably most of the other plastics while we're at it, and possibly the trunk lid. the main body panels are pretty good, but the bumpers are beyond faded (or spray canned ) and the rest of the plastics are just chipped up here and there.

Thanks for all the compliments! It still catches me off guard to see the original green, it was just soo ugly! Even though we spent about a year working on it with it's original green! It's like a completely different car. A total upgrade!

And glad someone noticed the olds emblem! Haha, we used a small scraper to remove the red and silver from it, it was completely clear, then we filled the indented "background" with the blue, and sprayed white over it to cover the "rocket" and outline. It turned out a lot better than expected!

But once again, thanks for all the compliments!:)

-Tim

EDIT:

Also, looks like I've been long overdue for a new sig haha. Will have to get some sweet fall pics of the cars together!
