Rear auxilary spring characteristics change in cold weather?

The small auxilary springs on an early W-body rear suspension are elastomer, as used in many mountain bike suspension forks.

Was just reading a page on tips for mountain biking in Alaska winter

"Elastomer suspensions generally stop moving between 20 F and 0 F but they don't seem to be damaged by the cold. "

Those springs are more that what they appear to be. There is a metal mesh in the rubber encasement on the cylindrical springs. I'm not sure about the figures 8's but I beleive there is a metal frame work in them too.
