Solarboy
I replacing the sleeves and boots, replacing the aluminum ones that froze...and I'm have a hard time getting the sleeves and boots in. I've cleaned the boot grooves with a dremel tool and little wire brush, so they seat fine...but they want to pop out. Is there some good trick for getting the boots and sleeves in? Solarboy
22 views and no replies. I think I've figured out the "secret". Rebuilt calipers, with sleeves/boots installed are only $37 at O'Reilly's. I did manage to get the boots on...the grooves they sit in have to be cleaned really well. I used a dremel with a little cutting wheel that fit in the bore, and I could run it around the groove and clean it back to the original metal. Then, the boot will seat deeply enough in the groove so the sleeve will slide past it, pushing it into the groove instead of pushing it out. Still takes 10 fingers and 2 toes to get them in.
