Steering wheel controls

Hi all! I have a 92 vert with the 3.1, and the steering wheel controls do not work. Fuses all look good, and I even replaced the center pad with an identical one from a cutlass at the junkyard, but still nothing. I'm now thinking ECM, but I'm not sure if that could be the problem. I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks.

the SWRC don't interface with the ECM at all. being a 92, however, i would expect there to be a module near the column that is used to translate the pulsed signal into something the radio can directly use. the later ones use a variable resistance and go directly to the radio, but the 88-93(maybe 94 for the CS?) use an encoded signal that uses a "translator" box between the radio and SWRC.

are you still running the stock radio?

Yes. Actually, the car came without the radio ( I bought it used) but I grabbed one from a similar vehicle at the junkyard. It's a basic AM/FM cassette radio.

The SWRC will not work with a basic stereo. You need the upscale radio for them to work.

I am assuming that by "basic", you mean this style.

You will need this:

The above is also available with an EQ.

Sorry to bring back this from the dead, but does anyone know if the steering wheel controls still work when the stock radio is swapped out for an aftermarket radio with the steering wheel adapter?
