you should be able to get a compression tester for fairly cheap from any parts store, it'd be a good idea, but based on the symptoms you're describing, I'm leanin' more towards a bad coil, or plug, or wire, or ICM, something that's causing you to lose spark. You can figure out which cylinder it is by pulling each plug wire one at a time and recording the change in engine idle/sound/vibration, if it doesn't change, it's most likely that cylinder.

ok, updated info

 

mymechanic thinks it might be my fuel pressure regulator... just a thought

normally* when the regulators go out they just don't hold any pressure, causing your injectors to work overtime, and usually hurting them.

 

tell your mechanic to do a cylinder balance test, and that'd define which one/ones are going bad on you.

thanks guys, this really helped me a lot

im going to take it to the dealer near my house and have them look at it and give me a diagnosis,

 

my mechanic can look at it on the 17th, and thats 1 day before my sr project (the CAI on teh car is my project, so i might be screwed with the visual...)

 

ill update soon after i take it to hoover chevrolet....
