now i have a 92 Lumina with the 3.4, and a manual, but ti should be close to the same. mine was on the back of the block, about 3" up from the oil pan. it looks like a plug, that L's to dive into the block and has 1 8 or 10mm bolt holding it in place. undo the bolt, and pull it out, it should be around 2" long.

Yup that is about right for the 3.1 also. Its in the back and there are 2 sensors down there next to each other. The cranksensor is the one lower and more in the middle. You can access it from the top (removing alternator really helps) to undo the screw. You can reach it from the bottom also (i have) you have to snake your arm up behing the (frame-sub frame) whatever that is down there and then its maybe easier to pull out that way if you cannot get at it from the top.

Do a search on crank position sensor there is more detailed info somewhere else

back of the block ?

how can alternator be in the way if its on back of block ?

you mean back sideof front end, or back end of block ?

hmm

thanks

If you take the alternator and bracket, you can reach right down to the back of the block and get to the sensor from the top of the motor. The sensor is on the back of the block, right where they said
