I showed up to my inspection (in the escort) with a blow-out, a crapload of rust, a rear swaybar that wasn't connected on the drivers side, and a parking brake that doesn't work.... Ten minutes later I was out of there with a freshly aired up tire and a inspection sticker!!

Yep, here they don't care or look hardly at all. They walk around the vehicle once, looking for obvious defects. Then, they take the VIN number down. The last thing they do is look under the hood, but I don't think they have a clue what they're looking at.

That's only for out of state inspections though. You can drive a truck that's been out to pasture for 20 years on the street with no inspection if it's got a Kansas title

Our inspections are pretty strict...But I know someone with a 240SX that you can literally see the front fender while driving directly behind it and has bald tires but yet it passed.

Mo. inspection covers alot of shit. Lights, horn, glass, fluid leaks(p/s, brake) and level, tires, brake pad thickness, mirrors, tie rods, ball joints, links, etc. The tires can look like shit but cannot show cord or be worn to the depth markers across three treads. Obviously you found a guy that thought he might make some extra cash on repairs. Most inspectors don't look that closely at p/s leaks.

Wow, I'm so lucky to live where I do, right here in Lincoln, Nebraska. They don't do any inspections here, meaning that I can get away with a lot here. :nana:

That is how Minnesota is too, no vehicle inspections of any kind.

Worn tires are a safety issue.

That's what I find hilarious about where I live, you can fail an emissions test for having a locking gas cap that leaks a little air, but you can't fail for having a gas tank that has a massive hole in it, or tires that are worn right through to the tread.

Will end links stop the tire wear problem? Tire wear is usual the cause of suspension problems. So replacing the tires is irrelevent if you don't fix the problem at the source, unless they just weren't balanced right on the way on.

don't forget to look at springs, tie rod ends and ball joints :willynilly: while you doing the rack. & after the rack is r&r you need aligned anyways :high5: also get a 4 wheel alignment it worth it. also if you can replace the upper rear strut bolt with a adjustable one's it make's it much easier to set up the rear. there cheap at http://www.partsamerica.com
