What I *thought* was the cat was right off the manifold before the 02 sensor.. It was bigger than the exhaust piping, and I thought that was it.. wickedbuick Posted July 23, 2008 Report Share Posted July 23, 2008 Another test that works most of the time is to use a infared thermometer. Run the car for 10-20, get it hot, and then check the temp of the exhaust pipe right before and after the cat. If it is somewhat close, the cat is probably OK. If it is notably lower on the exit of the cat, it is obviously clogged and bad. Infared thermometer is also great for checking rotors to determine if a caliper is hanging or anything else.
