Supreme Cutlass
I've been having problems with brake power, and it's either air in the lines, or fluid in the power booster. Would the residue on the power booster under the master cylinder be dried up brake fluid?
DaveFromColorado
that picture is fairly outta focus, could you take a different picture please? anyhow if you do have brake fluid in the booster, that's usually because the master cylinder went bad and leaked from behind the piston and into the booster itself ... --Dave. Supreme Cutlass
Sorry, I still don't have my fugi back, and the crappy one I had to use just refused to focus on what I wanted. The master cylinder doesn't show any signs of having gone bad, so I was hoping that just sitting for a year let it leak. Looks like i've got a bigger problem than I thought either way... 1990lumina
Little off topic, but what type of power problems are you having???I'm just wondering because I am having some problems as well and wondering if you and me are having the same problem or not
Supreme Cutlass
Well, the brake pedal responds normally (no sinking, not hard, etc.) but the brakes aren't effective enough to stop the car at higher speeds. You find yourself praying that you don't have to stop quickly at speeds around 40mph....not good.
DaveFromColorado
Ahh, that doesn't sound like a booster issue - my Lumina was doin' that after it sat for a few months - a couple weeks of regular driving and the brakes are back to normal - I do believe it's from some rust buildup on the rotors and whatever dust/dirt particles that get between the pad and the rotor causing the issue, once that glaze is broken (from the couple weeks driving) you'll notice you don't have to pray when it comes time to stop. --Dave.
