cryptnix Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 Pointers ... what to use for lowering the front and the rear in the cheapest way. I got $600 todo it ... Quote
GTPrix Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 Suspension techniques front lowering springs from JC Whitney, but you gotta get them for the Monte. AS far as the rear goes, very limited options. Best bet is proably the FFP coilovers, or the Flexaform monoleaf. The nice thing with the FFP coilovers s though, you can then remove the stock monoleaf from the car. Front http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ProductDisplay/s-10101/makeId-1000107/p-4817/c-10101/modelId-1001150 Rear http://www.fastfwdperformance.com/co.htm After shipping, and on a $600 budget, you'll have about $150 left over!!! GTPrix Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 Sorry I was assuming there were KYB struts in the rear already..... caus the coilovers are $310 without struts. Drew Quote
90TGP Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 How about the Intrax front spring groupbuy and Birchmount rear lowering spring groupbuy? Talk to RW89TGP about the front springs. There is a 12page post in the suspension forum for the rear spring. Quote
EurosportZ34 Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 so you are just lowering the front? Quote
1990lumina Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 Lol for my Lumina all I need to do is lower the front.. the ass end is already a few inchs lower in the front Quote
cryptnix Posted February 12, 2005 Author Report Posted February 12, 2005 i'm looking todo both ... i think the rear will be first to be honest with ya... just a question tho is their anyone thats done the coilover deal? is the loss of the monoleaf a hard thing to swap out? and ... how much better does it make the overall cornering at higher speeds? lol ... just tell me the stuff you'd think i'd like to know cause i'm alittle drained atm ... forgive me Quote
Jcrow Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 My cutlass sits lower in the rear and yours looks higher in the rear, wierd. I'm going to fab something up out of a coil spring compressor to clamp down a coil in the front. I used to have a G body monte and I lowerd the front with these little clamp things, and it worked great. It stiffens the spring to which is good for me 'cause I must have the Boulivard Ride Package in my cutlass ps I'm only talkin like a 1-1.5" drop Quote
Intimidatorz34 Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 Good luck getting the springs from Jcwhitney......I ordered mine back around Xmas time and Im still waiting. Damn backorder Quote

I'm very happy with the whole setup. No it wasn't hard to swap the FFP's in and take the leafspring out. Go to http://www.fastfwdperformance.com/FFP%20coil-over%20instructions.pdf for instructions on how the coil-overs go in and how to take the leafspring out. I noticed a night and day difference in handleing because now the rear is totally independent. Each wheel has its own spring and doesnt have to share one....like with the leafspring. Quote

GnatGoSplat Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Yeah, my ST springs came in a week too, although they sat around awhile before I got 'em in! Personally, I think you should go for the Intrax front springs and Birchmount rear leaf. Intrax has a lifetime warranty and their spring is progressive rate. I don't know for sure that it rides better than the ST spring, but their sales propaganda sounds good. Birchmount is the cheapest way to lower the rear, and it's $100 cheaper than the Flex-A-Form which I have, and am not too impressed with the amount of drop I got with the FAF spring. Quote
