Luke
If the swap to 3.1 is not doable, does anyone know where to buy the 3.4L tools needed to rebuild (cam sprocket holder and cam timing tools)? Prefer not to use ebay, I am looking to start project soon one way or another. Thanks. Luke.

93GTP
Don't pay $115 dollars for those things, you can get some made very easily. Just get some 3/4" steel square stock, cut two pieces 6 inches long, and drill a 5/16 hole in the center of each. The bolt you need to use is a M8x1.25x60. Here's a pic (my pic also has tools made from 1/2" stock, which I don't recommend)

kcac
Where do you get square stock? Do you have to have a friend at a machine shop or can you get it from a hardware store?

kcac
93GTP Why do you recommend the 3/4" stock over 1/2". Just wondering...did you have problems using tools make with 1/2"?
93GTP
Well, when you drill a hole 5/16" through the center of a 1/2" piece of stock, there isnt much material left and it's super weak. Just tightening down somewhat causes it to bend. And since 3/4" fits fine it's just my preference...
