Ned Flanders Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 THe car was acting normal until I goosed the gas a little to get into traffic. WHen I pulled up to a light, the rpms were at about 3,000 and it was wanting to take off, which, believe me, is NOT normal for this old Buick. My dad was with me, I got it down a side street and let it sit for a minute. Started it up again and it started racing again. I blipped the trottle and everything went back to normal. Nothing's broken, the cable are okay and the car's running normal for now. How can I prevent this from happening again? Quote
Crazy K Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 carb cleaner and an old toothbrush to remove carbon buildup on the throttle body. Quote
jtwmechanic Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 had this happen on several of these. ended up being the cruise control cable hanging the throttle at the throttle body. make sure it is in it's track at the linkage Quote
Ned Flanders Posted April 18, 2009 Author Report Posted April 18, 2009 Thanks! I didn't have time to clean the throttle body but I did get in and check the linkage and lube everything up. That made my morning more exciting than it needed to be. Quote
