Was this OK to do??

I remember about a year ago, when my old mechanic was trying to figure out what was wrong with my 89 Supreme, he suggested that I change, also referred to as 'upgrade' my EPROM/MemCal.

So, assuming he knew what he was talking about, I said sure. It cost me like $70 or something.

But I still have my old one. And I was just wondering if this made sense for me to do?? Does GM constantly update/upgrade their EPROM/MemCal's?? Even on 13 year old cars/engines??

THANKS:)

If it's an 89 2.8L, I'm only aware of one update, and that supposedly was to fix the fuel consumption reading on the trip computer. I replaced mine with the update, and the trip computer's still not accurate!

On an '88, there's a speed density update that's supposed to improve drivabillity.
