RenegadeZ
I am considering using some RTV silicone to replace my paper gasket on my stat.... as well as for the egr gasket (maybe)... Has anyone ever used this? if so did you like how it worked?
Robby1870
why? The total for those two gaskets is less than $
RenegadeZ
yea I know, I have the gasket for the stat... but I would have to order the one for the egr... I was just trying something different, I guess if it isnt broke I shouldnt try to fix it.
DOHCRagtopguy
The EGR gets too hot and would burn off the RTV. Those gaskets are made out of special high temperature material. Should be ok for the t-stat.
god910
It'll be okay until a piece breaks off and plugs a tube in your radiator. Don't do it, hell, a new T-stat comes w/ a gasket and it's only $5-6. As far as the egr what happened to the old gasket? I've never actually seen a bad one. (Althought the TGP upper intake I just removed from a spare motor I have laying around has carbon all over the bottom of it.)
WhiteOut
You can buy both EGR gaskets for the same price as a tube of copper RTV, why not just get the gaskets?
RenegadeZ
I have the gaskets, I always had them when I bought the parts (except the egr gaskets)... I am just going to use the gaskets.
