White93z34 Posted January 10, 2023 Report Posted January 10, 2023 Love it. What drove you to choose the LFX over the more conventional L67 swap that people tend to like (I mean aside of the fact that a LFX if more powerful out of the box) Quote

What drove you to choose the LFX over the more conventional L67 swap that people tend to like (I mean aside of the fact that a LFX if more powerful out of the box) Well…. After going through my 9th 4t65e I wanted to do something different, We had the impala sitting out back, we also had an 06 monte ss out back, and a 07 Grand Prix so I mean, i could have done an ls4 swap, or even shoved and l32 in it and called it a day. But as far as I know the lfx swap was never done before, and I have plenty of time, so I decided that the lfx was to way to go mainly because of how strong the 6t70 has proven itself to be, and the fact that I wanted to modernize the car. I loved how the monte was from the factory but I always wished it was a little bit more modern, now with this entire swap I have gained the stability control + the altogether better traction system, the whole car uses the can-bus now so you can do a few more electronic things in the car, and well, I always have liked dohc v6s and I’ve always liked the dohc v6 sound when they have equal length exhausts so I I just figured it was worth a shot to try the swap so maybe other people could do it in the future too! ThatLFXmonteSS Posted January 10, 2023 Author Report Posted January 10, 2023 as you can see, i used the entire dash out of the 2012, but with the silver pieces out of a 09 impala ss we had, center Counsil is also impala, the front seats are out of a 07 gp gxp, and every single wire is 2012 impala except for the front doors, they are 2007 monte harnesses. primergray 1 Quote
Raffaelli Posted January 10, 2023 Report Posted January 10, 2023 I did an engine replacement on a 2009 Saturn Aura 3.6. The engine was extremely hard to find out of a junkyard, was expensive, and still had timing chain codes in it after I swapped it. Got totally screwed on that deal, but whatever. It ran really hard though. I was impressed. Quote

Yeah, the llt and ly7 had timing chain issues, the lfx had an updated head and pcv system that solved 99% of the timing chain issues, haven’t seen one with issues yet (not saying it’s impossible) but if it did happen it’s pretty easy to replace them. Toughluck30 Posted June 8, 2025 Report Posted June 8, 2025 Hello I’m messaging you to find out if I have the complete impala vehicle how much fabrication will I need to do for the swap.Mine is a 2006 Monte Ss with a 5.3 but I wanna go 3.6 Quote
Schurkey Posted June 9, 2025 Report Posted June 9, 2025 The 3.6 is quite an engine. The 6T70E seems to be a pretty-fair transmission, although it pisses me off that there's no serviceable filter. But giving up a V8 in a fairly-rare car to go backwards into ordinary? Re-think this. ThatLFXmonteSS 1 Quote
White93z34 Posted June 9, 2025 Report Posted June 9, 2025 If I were to guess... the 4T65E in the V8 cars was a pretty tragic weak point so maybe he's tired of cooking those? Megavolt-380 and ThatLFXmonteSS 2 Quote
55trucker Posted June 9, 2025 Report Posted June 9, 2025 I suppose if I were to go the route of a new heart *exotic* transplant the LFX from the Cadillac ATS & the 6T75 trans would be my choice of powerplant. I won't sneeze at a 320 hp na V6. ThatLFXmonteSS and 92Lumi 2 Quote

Yea, after 7 dead 65e’s in multiple different w bodies i was kinda sick of it. Not to mention the 6t70 had 2 extra gears to play with. If it wasn't for the horrible 2.44 fd in the impala transmission it really would've been pretty wicked. Unfortunately ended up getting rid of the car a while ago due to rot. Current owner still has it but it only gets driven for track events. Id like to build another someday with an 06/07 shell and 3.16/3.39 6t out of an suv. Would be much better acceleration/fun wise and the 6t’s OD is still long enough to be perfectly fine on the highway. why didn't i just slap an ls4 in? because everyone either just slaps an ls4 in or an l67. The 6t/ls4 wasn't figured out yet, the ls4 is an absolute pain to work on in that engine bay, and it also just wasn't my taste. I could've done an ls4, at the time we had 2 of them sitting around in donor cars at the yard. I didn't want to lol. Edited 1 hour ago by ThatLFXmonteSS Quote
