2nd Gen Regal differences by year

These are the more noticeable differences.

Engine:

-Coolant Resivour is on the drivers side on 1997 and 1998 models. In 1999 it was moved to the passenger strut tower.

-Throttle body is the older style on 1997 and 1998 models. 1999 switched to the newer, more open Throttle body.

-PCM has removable knock sensor module on 1997 models. 1998+ have an integrated Knock sensor module.

-Supercharger was slightly different in 1997.

-Transmission changed in 2003. The PCM changed slightly because of this.

ABS:

-Delco DBC 7 was introduced in 1999. 1997 and 1998 models used the Delco VI ABS, the same system that 92+ 1st gen's used.

Interior:

Radio:

-The Monsoon® (220 Watt rating) radio system was introduced in 1999. It's very commonly found on GS's from 1999-2000.

-Radio changed in 2004. Monsoon was still an option.

-Some 99's were prewired for a CD changer. (mine included :D)

Other Interior:

-Drivers side dimming mirror was introduced in 1999. Not sure what option it was, or included with.

-Some early 99 models are prewired for a dimming passenger outside mirror. GM never followed through with actually equipping Regals with this though...

-The performance shift button was removed in 2001.

-Interior trunk pop button was added mid year in 1999.

-Side airbag on the drivers side was introduced in 2000 and standard on the GS. Later it became an option on the GS.

-60/40 split fold down rear seat introduced in 2000.

-OnStar became standard on GS's in 2001.

Body:

Front STB was standard on 99-02(?) GS's

Grille on GS became body colored on late 1999+ models.

Some standard options on GS's started to be options on GS's after 2001. I don't remember what they were at the moment, but when I do I'll add it.

This is all I can remember off hand. I'll update it when I remember/find more things. If anyone notices anything wrong just PM me! and I'll change it.

you should add info on the LSE/GSE, LSX/GSX and Joseph Abboud edition Regal to this sticky as well. wasn't there also an Olympic edition Regal?

The Olympic Edition Regal was the same as the Joseph Abboud Regal, IIRC. I don't think those are really worth it, IMO.

One of the nicer Regals was the Charcoal/bronze body color scheme that seemed to appear late there run. I think it was 2002. They are very nice looking.

the thing i really like about the Joseph Abboud edition is the sanddrift lower body color instead of gray. i think they look so good like that no matter what the other color is (so long as the other color isn't sanddrift as well....then it would just look like an LS  )

one of the wierdest/rarest color combos i've seen on a Regal GS was this one:

not only is it monotone but it's the only Regal GS i've seen in that color. i think that color is called Auburn Nightmist Metallic Pearl or something like that (it's used on lots of other GM vehicles). it looks either brown or purple depending on what angle you look at it from. i don't think i'd like that color on my car. the only other monotone GS i've seen was a black one.

maybe I figured it out on my own - was it just a grouping of options with a discount? and was this only in 99 and 00
