I am thinking about mounting a camera to either the dash or the roll cage.....yea I know...but I gotta have a roll cage at the speeds I am going to be running... there is a billboard they have set up partway through the race to show you how fast you are going...I want video of me passing it.

Since this will be my first open road race(official) I believe they are going to limit me to the gt3 class....which means 165mph average or I break class and loose any chance at placeing.

I am trying to decide how long to tape for...if I tape the whole race it would be between 1 hour and 1 and 1/4 hours long

so I might settle for having clips of me passing the billboard, finishing and a clip from inside the car as I do these as well

You could always shoot the wohle thing, and then edit it later. That, or take some in race stuff. Or even beter, if you saw some nice footage (wreaks, scenerey, etc), turn it on, then off again

I will be running either a y rated(186 mph) or z rated tire(149+mph) ....road corses require street tires because race tires are too thin and may blow out from simple road hazzards...eg glass chunks..nails.... they are pretty strick on the tires so I will prob run one of the tires they list.....other wise the have to tech the tired before they are mounted on the rim or some crap like that....they even mandate the type of air filler tube that is mounted in the rim....(at the speeds I run at)

Doesn't turning off the VSS reading mess wreck havoc on your engine, the pcm thinking you're going 0 mph and in reality it's 120+? Or would it just be tranny issues?

as far as I know the computer dosen't give a crap what speed your going as far as opperating the engine goes untill you hit the limiter...what it does care about is rpm...which is driven by the crank sensor...I may be wrong but that was my understanding ....as far as the trans goes it may depend on which trans you have...if it's the electronic one I beleve it is speed sensitive.....I dont believe mine was the electronic so I dont think it matters

no, the tranny on yours isnt the eletronic one. So, the tranny doesnt care about speed, nor does the computer. Like you said, all it cares about it rpm

ummm what other word were you using (sic)

I only ever thought the other version was funny beacuse my friend Ron actulty mistook a 80's pontiac for an 80's caddy....and our friend Leander started beating him with a hat yelling "I can't beleve you just called a pontiac a caddy infront of a white guy".

I really meant size when I asked about the tires. You know that if you upsize the front, your gear ratio changes slightly, lessening takeoff, but increasing top end a bit. I'd find some lightweight wheels in a big honking size (no chromed-out cha-ching) and run some low profiles so you won't lose your cornering ability, but still stretch your top end...

bah? did you mention me and chromed out Ka-ching in the same sentence?... yes I am going to try to up size the tires some....but I haven't done the math yet to see what size I'm going to run...
