Black92GS Posted November 14, 2025 Report Posted November 14, 2025 (edited) Gotta love that quality 80s GM fit and finish! And that Regal is very oddly equipped. Bench seat, manual locks and windows, no rear reading lights.....but it has alloy wheels. Then there is this: That cluster must be from a pre-production vehicle, as the tach was never red like that on any of the production ones. My old 88 Regal was a November 87 build, and the tach was green like the rest of the cluster. Edited November 14, 2025 by Black92GS pwmin, GnatGoSplat, 92Lumi and 1 other 2 2 Quote

From what I have found, the original air date of that episode was the week of October 7th, 1987. Highly likely that those are pre-production Cutlasses that were filmed. The Regal footage is likely a production model since they were the first to go on sale in October. That Regal digital dash footage has to be from a pre-production car though. Either that, or GM made a production change extremely early in the product run to change the tach from red/orange to green. 94 olds vert 1 Quote

Schurkey Posted November 16, 2025 Report Posted November 16, 2025 What they liked the best: The brakes. What folks complain about the most on this site: The brakes. I've said it before, I'll say it again: The biggest problem with Gen 1 brakes is not the brakes per se, it's the brake booster. rich_e777, pwmin, 94 olds vert and 2 others 5 Quote

I always buckled up after closing the door. That said, I really liked the door-mounted belts for their better access to the rear seats. On my '95 convertible, the more traditional floor and ceiling mounted belts and shoulder harness become an obstacle to rear seat access. While I've never ridden back there, I have become entangled in them, and even had a couple of falls, when climbing in and out to vacuum the rear area. That's the one aspect of the updated interior that I don't like. Edited January 8 by Human 94 olds vert 1 Quote

I would`ve liked that badge to be illuminated on the door pillar with black powdercoated door handles/lockplate vs the vertical pillar handle design we got. 94 olds vert 1 Quote

Amanita Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago (edited) Do we know why the Lumina took 2 extra years to get to market? I don't think they mentioned Chevy once in this video. Come to think of it, the Lumina was treated very differently from the other Ws. Last one on the market, first one to get a generational overhaul, and the last "first" gen to be discontinued. Probably just due to manufacturing issues or Chevy didn't have a need for a car that sized right away in 1988. There were no sedans in 1988 only coupes. Sedans started in 1990 so that might have something to do with it. GM had a lot of issues getting production going with these cars back then. Doraville, GA is where the Cutlass Supreme and later the Lumina in 1990 were assembled. There was a massive retooling going on and there were issues on the line. These cars were all new and GM already put billions into getting these cars built. GM did have the Beretta at the time, so the need for another coupe in 1988 probably wasn't too high on the list.
