Padgett Posted March 20, 2016 Report Posted March 20, 2016 Some may recall from the gain control thread that the wiring in my 93 "Rescue" was A Mess. PO had added and readded and removed and each time added butt splices (I solder my connections). So far I have removed a - Kenwood head and CD (no BT) - JVC changer & remote - Panasonic powered woofer & remote - PAC steering wheel control adapter After studying schematics for days and rewiring the starter last night (once upon a time had an anti-theft ?), today at 8:45 am I had all of the needful things & got started. At 3:50 pm the radio was working & most of the excess has been removed. Still have not figured out what was done to the subamp behind the radio but can remove the plug and all speakers still work, suspect it has been bypassed but is buried somewhere. I did go with an original cassette radio and the steering wheel controls now all work. I have added the cassette adapter (red wire) with microphone (can be seen at top of phone) & caller says that Hands Free works very well, just as in my 88 Reatta. GPS is also sounding through radio and the hundreds of albums I have on the microSDcard in the phone also sound great, much better than the satellite services which have always sounded flat to me. Still need my OTC 2000 for diagnostics since not OBD-II but getting there. Anyone know where the cable from the subamp goes ? It seem to disappear into the ignition switch harness. Quote
Psych0matt Posted March 20, 2016 Report Posted March 20, 2016 Whatcha pull out of it? Wanna sell any of it to me for cheap? Lol Quote
Padgett Posted March 20, 2016 Author Report Posted March 20, 2016 Don't know yet, still extracting things. Quote
rich_e777 Posted March 20, 2016 Report Posted March 20, 2016 Looks like the mess still in my GTP, but at least the PO appeared to have all the wiring laid new without using the SWRC and just left them hanging. Ive gotten as far as removing the stereo and speakers and some of the wiring but that's about it. Looking good, with the invention of these touch screen phones it makes it easier to add new tech in these older cars. Quote
Padgett Posted March 20, 2016 Author Report Posted March 20, 2016 This looks like an easy way to add an aux input. Does require a switch. Quote
Billyvannuys Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 Hey Padgett, that looks great. I'll look that up, now to find a spot on dash board for jack. Console looks like a possibility. Lots of blank plastic there. Quote
RPE1992GPSE Posted March 27, 2016 Report Posted March 27, 2016 By "subamp," do you mean the small amplifier under the radio? Quote
ManicMechanic Posted March 27, 2016 Report Posted March 27, 2016 I modified my amp for the AUX input. I've lost my instructions though, Penglii (I think) was supposed to send me scans of the radio schematics but he hasn't been around in a LONG time. Quote
Psych0matt Posted March 27, 2016 Report Posted March 27, 2016 I may still have the one you sent me like 8 years ago Quote
Padgett Posted March 28, 2016 Author Report Posted March 28, 2016 Yes, the small box behind the radio and above the ashtray. Have it unplugged and all speakers are working. Think the PO bypassed it. Quote
RPE1992GPSE Posted March 29, 2016 Report Posted March 29, 2016 Under normal operation in the 6-speaker Grand Prixs, that amplifier only powers the door speakers. I'm not quite sure what sort of bandpass it produces, if any. The speakers sound like midranges to me. I bypassed mine for my Firebird Monsoon amplifier retrofit. Quote
Padgett Posted March 29, 2016 Author Report Posted March 29, 2016 I realize that, currently my door and dash speakers seem to be paralleled. However the subamp provides a secondary advantage of limiting the load on the radio output transistors. This is the part that concerns me. Quote
RPE1992GPSE Posted March 29, 2016 Report Posted March 29, 2016 I'd take the door panels off and check the wiring at the speakers. Quote
Padgett Posted March 29, 2016 Author Report Posted March 29, 2016 (edited) Oh I can see the miswiring under the dash but a good idea to check under the door panels. BTW I still need a driver's door upper plastic piece the goes around the lock and up the A-pillar. One for power mirrors (no cut out for manual). Edited March 29, 2016 by Padgett Quote

I'll pull it off later tonight and post a pic here. Quote
Padgett Posted March 30, 2016 Author Report Posted March 30, 2016 (edited) That is what I need, just sent a PM. It is interesting, down here in the souf we have rustfree bodies but the sun is hard on the interiors, paint, and tires Edited March 30, 2016 by Padgett Heartbeat1991 1 Quote
