72cuttysupreme
Looking for a place I can buy them, or if someone can direct me to a good write up on how to make them. Thanks!
Psych0matt
I assume tinted, not tined? And no one made them, you'd have to find some plexi or something to make your own
rich_e777
that VHS or VHT nightshade(cannot recall the name) works really nice compared to some ive seen with plexi-glass, just do really thin coats until you get what you like. Problem is you wont have as much light unless you upgrade the bulbs. And some shit called goof-off works wonders to remove OFF OF GLASS, it will fuck up plastic and you`ll be wet sanding and buffing with rubbing compound and then useing clearcoat to get your stuff back to decent. Ive nightshaded my lights both front and back once and decided i like the stock look better, besides the front outer turn signals, i like those black. But i'm not wanting to tint the halogen bulbs i'm wanting an actual plastic cover to go over the headlights and sort of simulate a sealed plastic headlight. And i'm wanting to tint them. Were can I find some good quality plexiglass? I'll just sand it with some 2000 grit and go to town with VHT and clear coat. I have a really cool idea by using an extra set of headlight bezels and some good plexi. See my car has a beautiful metalflake black paintjob and I want to black out the rest of it. rich_e777
. See my car has a beautiful metalflake black paintjob and I want to black out the rest of it. Â Pics or it didnt happen:lol: yeah really wanting to see it now. dont be stingy with the Wbody porn. Â Ive seen what you`re talking about but its custom. Mini-quads? the inside bulb can always be removed and upgraded without replacing the housing. Maybe an industrial place that makes plastic items might be worth a call. A packaging company might have what you`re looking for aswell. Saw a thread on here not long ago with a grey/silver CS with those, but i dont really care for the look. it seamed like swaping them out with a sedan header and lights and tinting them looks better, hey maybe you can use just the lense and tweak it to work:shrug:
mhildebrand
Here is the small write-up I did on them: Â http://www.w-body.com/showthread.php/49767-Smoked-Tail-Lights/page3 Â My drivers side one did crack on the inside from catching a rock or something else on the interstate, but no problems with them otherwise. carkhz316
I did these to my brother's GXP last summer. He didn't want to do the typical nightshading effect that blacks it out. He just wanted it to be different. Same with the headlights. This is using PPG clear with a little bit of DCC single stage black mixed in to tint it. I followed this up with a straight clear to protect the tint and the rest of the light. (also a stock GP taillight for comparison)
carkhz316
I did a similar idea to my truck as it being an '03, had the red border tails instead of the black like on the 04+. I initially wanted to do just the border, but figured while I was at it, that I would smoke the unlit portions as well:
Psych0matt
I need to find some better tails and have mind done professionally. I don't really care if they're delaminated inside, wont really show with the tint
mhildebrand
It might show when the lights are on if that matters to you. Â If you are any good with a rattle can, you can do it yourself with VHT and clear.

72cuttysupreme
See my headlights? I'm wanting to put one solid piece of tinted plexi over each side, and cut them to fit. I may apoxy it to the existing bezel that goes around the three lights on each side.
94 olds vert
I have been thinking about making these for a long while now. I bought an extra set of head light covers from the junkyard. I was going to put the plexi glass on those and then use the VHT nightsade on them. Â I just haven't gotten around to doing it.

mhildebrand
You can go about it 2 ways, like what Nate said, using clear plexi and VHT, or the way I went with pre-tinted plexi.
rich_e777
Thats pretty sweet:thumbsup: Kindof getting sold on the idea myself now. Or maybe some LED strips similar to what Audi and Porche are starting to do. Pondering to do I have:think:

94 olds vert
What kind of adhesive did you use?
mhildebrand
I used plasti-mold beads. You usually melt them in hot water for custom stuff, or use them in an injection molder. I mention it in the write up I did. Link is one page back. I used them because I wasn't sure if you'd be able to see the epoxy through the tinted plexi, and because it was kind of difficult to hold the plexi in place around the bezel. The beads would harden in about 15 seconds, instead of trying to hold the bezel and plexi for 5 minuets to let the epoxy harden.
