89-W-Body-Regal Posted May 20, 2018 Report Share Posted May 20, 2018 At cold starts could the alternator or the Canister Purge Solenoid make a rattling or a tapping noise? Every time I start my regal at cold starts the engine makes a rattling taping noise. I tried to listen with my ear and it seems to be coming from between the alternator and Canister Purge Solenoid. It never done that before. Only after I replaced the alternator it started doing that. The alternator is charging good because I checked it and got good readings. I am thinking it is the solenoid.
