Gonna look at a 96 GP coupe...what to look for?

This next Friday I'm going to go look at a black '96 GP SE coupe in pretty good shape. 3100, 232k miles, mint interior, everything works, newer tires on late 90's GP "twisted" 5 spoke wheels (not my favorite but whatever), very solid (a small bit of rust in the driver's trailing arm area). He has replaced all 4 of the wheel bearings, fuel pump, fuel/air filter, new radiator, and intake manifold gaskets within the past few years. Original owner and has all the paperwork from purchase (including window sticker).

Anyway, I'm just wondering if there is anything specific I should look for when going to look at it. Obvious fluid levels and such, but for this specific car?

These are pictures he has sent to me.

The trailing arm mounts are the most important thing for these cars. If those are in good shape, everything else can be fixed. For the miles those look great. Check the normal things, engine, trans, brakes, and suspension.

Yeah I thought it looked pretty damn decent for my area. I just gotta wait till Friday since I have that day off to go look at it. For $1000 it seems like a good car.

I'm glad you passed up the other car. It's a shame but that would have been a tremendous investment. As Nate said the trailing arm mounts, also like I said in the other thread try to look past the rocker covers at the rockers, if they're rotted out they can be fixed but you want to reach in or look in and make sure the structure that runs the length of the car inside the rockers is intact.

That car looks killer, does it have a moon roof? It has the 3.1, but it's OBD II so it's not a terrible swap to do the L67 / 4T65E-HD drive train into later so it moves as good as it looks.

He said one of the rockers looked like it's just starting to rust, so I could probably remove the lower cladding and cut out the bad spots and weld a patch piece. Yeah I really wanted that white car but when I tried to jack it up to look underneath and the pinch weld disintegrated, it scared me. I do love the older "boxy" B4U Grand Prix's and love the white, but I think the back half of the car is just too far gone.

I rather would have had the white one to be honest (would have been the first white car I've ever owned) but the black car seems to be in much better shape and black is nice if you take care of it. I will probably repaint it at some point, and get it up on a lift to treat the underside with KBS Coating's "Rust Seal" and undercoat where the rust hasn't gotten to. I've used that KBS stuff on my truck frame and it's incredible!

I think it'll be a good project, much better bones.  It's amazing the condition of vehicles just 3 hrs from me look like.  I found this 92 LQ1 SE car down in KC.  I don't know if it was never driven in winter or if it migrated from a salt free area but couldn't believe how super clean it was underneath.
