I have 3 spare Prom/memcals in one of my many parts bags.  1 of them im quite certain is from the GP SE with a 284 I found years ago; but like a dummy I didn't tag it in any way.  Wondering if there's a list or if anyone knows how to identify it??  I have a 5speed swap in the works and the prom/memcal coming from it as well but would be nice to identify the spare.

AYSZ = 1992 LQ1/Auto

BBUK = 1993 LQ1/Manual

BCFA = 1991 LQ1/Manual

BCFA is the one you'll want to use

I found even more stuff. Funny what I’ve collected in totes over the years.

Also have AXSJ inside a BCDY Ecu no idea why

AUSJ inside a AUSJ ecu

AUBU in another bag.

3 spare ICMs

And my MSD dis 4 that I never installed. Next winter project?

What is the code for 91 auto?

91 auto which is what I have in my 91 GP is the AYSZ,

AUSJ is the T code engine (3.1) W body for 91,

AUBU is the T code engine W body for 93 auto trans

these all come out of the 16149396 ECM

I have nothing on the ASXJ

Well I'm pleased that you found that info,

the website I WAS making use of for the database now seems to be gone       gmpartsdb.com        mind you it's been 4 years since I last was into it.

what source are you using?

I used to have a snapon book with all these codes, but I think it got tossed since no one wanted it years ago.

There is a small chance it's in a box still.

  • 3 months later...

I've been wanting to broach this subject for a while now, so I hope this isn't too much of a hijack.  My '92 has a '95 LQ1 that I retrofitted using the original '92 ECU, I assume with the BCFA calibration, and the programming has always seemed a little bit off.  It's herky-jerky (surging?) below 1500rpm in high gear, along with some quirky drivability - like the revs fall off too fast, making smooth gear changes difficult.  I talked to Ryan at Sinister Performance and he said it should be fine with that calibration, but it's definitely not.  It's actually really smooth before it learns, then gets worse once it does.  Wonder if going to the '93 BBUK calibration would improve it?  Chris, why do you recommend the BCFA?

For his situation I believe I recommended the 91' BCFA calibration for the sake that it does not look for the clutch position switch that the 92/93 cars have. I think in talking to him in earlier threads he wasn't going to be able to add that switch or something to that effect with his swap.

92' Brought in the clutch position switch... not sure of its exact name. but its just an additional switch at the top of the clutch pedal that tells the ECM if the clutch in or not. It keeps the revs from falling face down when you go to shift, it helps driveability.

That must be the same switch used for the starter.  That's exactly what I need, I wonder if somebody swapped in a '91 MEMCAL.  I'll have to check it now.

Different switch, actually.

Where is it then?  There's a large black one mounted on the firewall that I thought was to for the starter, is that actually the "anticipator"?  Now I'm wondering if mine's not working properly.

The one on the floor is just the starter safety switch.

there is another one at the top of the pedal.

it cancels cruise control and tells the ECM if the clutch is in or out.
