From the Chicago area.

I had no idea there were so many W-body fans.

I get insulted and looked down at all the time because I have a Lumina.

Even though it's kind of fast, I still hear crap??

Old look:

This is the place to find fan W-body fans. Most of us like these cars way too much.

Welcome to the forum. What does that beast run?

OK, 1st thanks, I like it, and as you can tell, I prefer to go fast, more then I care about the body style.

I tried to find something cooler, but couldn't find anything this quality that I could fit in, 6'2" and I drive straight up.

This thing has all the best of the best. Dual fire system, dual parachutes,

latest & greatest cage, it might be old, but it's been pretty damn fast.

2nd. Sorry if I didn't mark the photo's clearly.

The photo that says coming soon hopefully is something one of the kids made for me.

The car still has the giant hood scoop, and no hole in the nose.

He did some kind of photo magic and took the scoop off and put a blower in the nose.

Trust me, at 205-210 mph, with the ProCharger spinning at 70,000 RPM I do have a screen protecting it!!

It has run 6.54 @ 213 mph with a 705" nitrous engine.

Last year I stuck one of my bracket engines in it and it ran 7.60 @ 174 mph.

This year, the new engine will make ~1750 HP for 1/4 mile bracket type racing, and should run 6.60-6.80 @ 205-210 mph.

I also ordered pulley's to crank it up to 2000 HP, for some 1/8 mile stuff I would like to try??

The new blower is a ProCharger, F-3R, and I'm running an injected alcohol system.

Here's more photo's if anyone cares to see??

Were you racing this in Ohio around 2004? I remember seeing a Lumina like yours at the track when the 60V6 meet was there. Track goes uphill after the 1/8 mile, forget the name now though.

Since 2004 the car has not been out of ILL, WI, or Ind.

Before that it was traveled around the Midwest for several years, but the team owner died, and I bought it from the kids.

There are a handful of Luminas out there.

One guy even saw mine and copied it, and added the huge picnic table because he liked mine.

Another guy runs one that looks close to stock, and runs in the low 8's!!

Yes, these cars are expensive, and I don't think most would believe what I have in the car.

I just had some more safety stuff added a couple of weeks ago just to be careful.

I'm definitely very excited with the new blower, and alcohol injection.

It will be a learning experience, that's for sure.

2000 hp, better make anyone excited unless your name is John Force!!

Holy crap. That's awesome. Care to spill the engine/drivetrain specs? And if anyone gives you shit about racing a Lumina-bodied car, just remind them that this man did too:

I think he also owned/was given by Chevy, an actual production Z34.

Thanks.

Here's some more details.

The only Chevy part of the car is the roof.

It was built as a legal NHRA Pro-Stock, by Gary Hood.

It was raced in NHRA until it became illegal.

It was sold to a guy in New England, and he never used it.

It was sold to a family in Minn.

They had it converted by Don Ness to a nitrous Pro-Mod,with the giant wing

and took the fiberglass pieces off and had carbon fiber installed.

They ran it for several years until the father passed away.

I bought it from the family.

I ran it one year and had it converted to T/S.

I ran it off & on for several years, but had several family health issues, and missed a lot of time.

Now I'm converting it back to Pro-Mod, but it'll be blown alcohol, instead of nitrous.

Depending on what or if I can sell off some of the engine stuff I have, it will be between a 540-582".

I would like to sell off some of my nitrous stuff, and build a smaller alcohol designed combo.

With these blowers, more inches is not always best!!

It will probably be a 557" conventional headed engine this year.

If we do ok with the learning curve, I will probably build a 582" with my Big Chiefs for next year??

I have a Top Dog glide we will use for now, but at some point, I would like to put a 3 speed in.

As always, it depends on money and how well we learn all this new stuff.

Unless of course some rich guy wants to throw a bunch of money my way, then we'll go max effort immediately!!

With my luck, that'll happen and I'll drop dead!!

Even though I have met a couple of racers that found guys that had the money, but did not want to drive,

they just wanted to be part of a fast racecar team??

For now, I will keep plugging away with the parts I have and what I can find reasonably.

It might not be done anytime soon, but I will get it out this summer some how??

Wish me luck!!

Hell of a nice setup man! I am a fan of NHRA/IHRA. The track I go to most is Maple Grove in PA.

Your car reminds me of the one I saw at the show last year.

Not W body, but close enough

I don't get that?? What made it not included??

Don't others do body mods??

Yes the nose has been stretched, and the wheel base has been stretched, but it still looks like a Lumina to me!!

Other then a giant wing the body still matched the required template for a Lumina.

Plus don't we have a bunch of guys here with engine mods, including replacing the stock engine??

I just happen to have 2000 HP, but that's what we need in my class!!

This forum has a track & racing section, so I'm not the only W-body guy that races??

I'm just a car guy that was looking for other Lumina guys.

Like I said before, I get crap all the time because my car is only a Lumina and not cool like a Camaro or Firebird!!

I was just looking for guys to BS with, obviously there are not many places a car like mine fits in.

After all, there are not many cars of any body or manufacturer that make 2000+ HP, huge huge tires, have been 213 mph before, etc etc.

I'm on other forums with guys in my class & faster.

I have one of the oldest, slowest, lowest power cars there, but when I want to talk or ask about that kind of stuff, I go there.

Like they say, if you want to get better, play someone better then you, not worse.

I'm here to learn where the meets are, get some appreciation for a Lumina, talk about the history of our cars.

Here's something I probably shouldn't admit??

Before I bought this car, I had no idea what a Lumina looked like!!!

So, forget that my car is the fastest or one of the fastest W-body's here.

I'm just a fat old guy looking for ways to kill time between racing & working!!

If there happens to be meets, guys in the area that want to hang or join the racecar team, even better!!
