As we all know, I'm an LQ1 humper. So I was ecstatic when I saw THIS come into our school's shop. We're doing the rear main seal and timing belt. The car is rust free underneath and needs a bit of odds and ends work. Fortunately, the woman who owns it loves the car and is in the process of having it restored.

And I know someone here likes keeping track of these...

And the results of the past 2 school shop days:

Cool , nice looking vert.

You sure its the rear main leaking and not the dist o-ring?

Thing needs a top, she's shrunk up quite a bit.

I believe it's around 107,000 miles. The entire engine's being gone over so if it's not the rear main seal, we'll find it before the car leaves. The owner of this car has no problem with however long it takes, so long as it's done right... God I'd love to have this car. XD

Well, we only get the shop every other day. Today was mainly about getting the engine unmounted from the subframe and removed, and bolting the subframe back into the car, transmission still attached.

fairly recent trans overhaul?

yeah if they are going after a rear main seal to cure the oil leak they are gona be in for a surprise when its the oil pump drive seal that is causing it.

Haha, was thinking the same exact thing. A lot of work for that oil pump drive seal.

They are pretty retarded engines... I'm not saying I don't love them.

I love them anyway. People should take care of them better and maybe they would not have so many problems. Doubtful though lol. Speaking of the LQ1's, I need to get my oil leak fixed on mine:lol:

How in the hell is the LQ1s an abominations. I think the teacher is lol

My teacher once argued with me over it. In the middle of the argument, he said the LQ1 was crap. I pointed behind him to a 2200 Corsica on a lift and said "No. THAT'S crap." He replied "No. That's a workhorse." I just stared at him like he was on crack.

Well he has a point... a 2.2 is much more accepting of abuse than an LQ1. MUCH more accepting.

Don't get abuse and fun mixed up, the LQ1 has been proven that it can handle a beating, just not neglect. I neglected the shit out of my '94 cavalier and that car would not die.

My LQ1 originally went 40,000 miles without so much as an oil change. What killed it was an unrelated timing issue.
