Stevo Posted October 29, 2008 Report Share Posted October 29, 2008 Senario - 02' GTP On the highway. Low coolant light comes on despite the fact that the temp is normal. Goes off when I am not on the highway. Replaced the thermostat last winter and had the engine coolant (dexcool) flushed and replaced. What gives? pitzel Posted December 7, 2008 Report Share Posted December 7, 2008 Given the propensity of these engines to develop internal coolant leaks, it would be extremely ill-advised to disable the light altogether. 4door Intl Posted December 7, 2008 Report Share Posted December 7, 2008 My warning lamp has been cycling on and off for a few weeks with a proper coolant level and just last night when i was going through my trunk i found a temp sensor i took off my old radiator when i swapped in a wrecker rad a few years back. (typical cracked plastic end cap failure there) Anyway i unclipped the metal tabs and pulled the screwy one, but had a hell of a time getting the replacement on. It's a tight space and even with the metal retainer clip in the 'unlocked' position i had to push with my palm with all my might to get them past the raised plastic tabs on the rad itself before i could lock it in. The big fat Olds digital dash low coolant lamp no longer flashes in my face. Good to know i can just clean it when the this one goes. I recommend having a small clean rag by you to plug the sensor hole when you pull it out to prevent coolant loss. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
rockfangd Posted December 7, 2008 Report Share Posted December 7, 2008 When you rev the engine the coolant lowers as it gets sucked into the system, and as you decelerate it flushes back into the reservoir.
