Coolant Elbow Leak. Formerly L36 to L67 Conversion Questions

So, now I'm addicted to Rock Auto's prices.

I'm getting the Plenum with the gasket.

The LIM gasket.

BUT

I can't find the plastic coolant elbows!

Do tehy sell them at autozone?

I have $20 for in store credit.

It'd be cool if I could find the elbows there, but I don't think they have them.

And I don't know what to search for.

"Coolant Elbows" doesn't come up as anything.

I need to keep my online shopping under $121.00 for now.

There's also an advanced auto near me.

Any help is great!

Thanks.

People have said that they are in the Help! section of the Auto Zone stores... I doubt they would have them on the website...

Yep, that's where they are at Advance Auto as well.

Alright, I know for sure the coolant elbow is leaking. I can actually see the drips of coolant, about 2 drips per second .

So, (to try to save some money) I'm going to only change the coolant elbow.

But!

How do I safely remove and replace it?

(By "safely" I mean "without breaking the new one".)

Does the LIM need to be removed?

IIRC you should be able to detach the tensioner assembly. I've never done it though so I wouldn't know what bolts to remove where, but a haynes/chilton's manual should walk you through that if nobody else here knows.

Yup, I got the two elbows at autozone for 3.99.

But not after debating for 5 minutes that it is NOT a rubber coolant hose.

I'm getting it put together in auto class tommorw. Hopefully that will solve ALL of my coolant leak issues!

Thanks for the help guys!

Will post back with results!

correct. it is easy even without a manual. be prepared for quite a bit of coolant to come out if you dont drain the rad first.

Lol, I always drain most of the coolant through the Radiator.

I also have a new W/P gasket, but I don't want to have to remove the Power Steering and all that just to get to it.

Maybe if my engine was out of my car, then I'd get it fixed up nice.

Also, I didn't get it fixed today.

Nor will I.

(Party.)

Maybe tomorrow.

I still have some stuff planned, but nothing much.

Just don't hold your breath waiting for any updates.

Hopefully this weekend though.

That is all.

UPDATE!

Removed tensioner.

Easier said than done.

Gets stuck where it enters water pump.

After 200,000 miles, the coolant elbow gaskets failed.

ALSO!

My 3 month old rebuilt alternator has a bad squeal when hand spun.

Taking it to auto zone tomorrow to get it tested, and maybe replaced under my lifetime warranty.

DONE!

The autozone people were really nice about the alternator.

No questions asked, they gave me another.

I also purchased a new thermostat and thermostat gasket.

I stayed with the 195 degree thermostat.

What makes a 180 better?

(They also had 160's.)

I flushed my ENTIRE cooling system.

A quick question though.

My car is now squeaking, I think it's the Water Pump. I know air was inside the pump. But after running it for 10 minutes and driving it for 15, shouldn't the air pocket be moved to the top of the radiator? Or is the air not causing the squeak? Only squeaks at idle speeds. It's fairly quiet, but just scares me. Any squeaking means something is going wrong. Any ideas? Happened to anyone else? :confused?:
