addco sway bar bracket broke please help- update update got

so iguess i hit a bump to hard or the brackets are just junk. so does any body have a fix or should i return it. i cant stand it is the biggest pain. between the bar and the springs i dont like driving that car any more

If ur talkin about the inner brackets...ha ha, been there done that.....

 

I've cut, welded, cut again, rewelded.....bolted.....tied them...u name it....ya i've had troubles.....thats why i'm makin new one sometime....if i can find stock ones to work with.

same here. stupid fucking Addco brackets :bash:

 

i've had my bar over two years now and all it does is sit in the garage :( like you i also broke an inner bracket shortly after installing the bar. stupid fucking Addco brackets. did i already say that? :lol:

 

i'm just going to have to have some custom brackets made i guess.

well right now i am driving with the bar hanging down. i was up till 11 00 last night trying to get them to fit and when driving home and the bushing that you have to cut off from addco the stock inner one it fell off and now i have only 1. so i need a fix fast and i am going to call trey at addco and tell him i need a revised bracket

:shrug: I used stock inner brackets with Monte bushings, and the Addco outers with Addco bushings. I've been thinking about switching to OEM outers with Monte bushings as well (hoping that'll get rid of some noise).

 

It's been 5yrs, no problems at all except for noise over bumps.

well i am sending my stock sway bar to trey at addco and he is going to make sure that the bar is more precisly made and he is engineering new brakcets. so every body should be pleased

i sent him a link to this exact post and he e-mailed me this

 

I looked around some and it looks like most everyone that has our bar, has

problems with it. I think our first step should be to make sure our bars

are exactly like factory. Next we need to address strength of mounting

brackets: thats where your pictures will come in. I have an idea for this,

I'll run it past you when we talk again. thanks for your help.

I wouldn't mind a better designed and hopefully less noisy bar.

Yeah, they aren't shaped anything like factory.

 

I just wonder what their policy on replacements? Can people who bought theirs a long time ago get a free replacement?

i dont know i just talked to him and my bar is going out today to addco. he wanted to use the mount that you use on the cars with no rear sway bar and i said what if youdont want it on the car any more you will have two holes that you just drilled. so he said if he had a car to look at it would be easier. any body in north carolina.

I had problems from day one with the bar sliding throught the outer brackets and resting on the wheel hub. I could for see this problem and wasnt sure how to fix it until a few weeks ago. I made these brackets that clamp on the bar and some rubber "bushings" that cancel ou the road noise. The bushings are actually cut out from an old tire inner-tube. The clamps are powercoated so they don't rust and I got it done for free.

great man i will send thes to him right now

 

I'd mention to him that the poly bushings for the inner hangers don't really do anything performance wise, all they do is hold the bar where it is....

 

What i'm saying is i'm gonna get rubber bushings for those hangers cause the stress that the pollys will not absorb are then transfered to the hanger witch obviousely breaks on many of our hangers.

 

I'll find my own rubber bushings unless he gets us some.

I was just looking at my bar yesterday, and it looked like I would have much less problems if it just went straight across instead of having that little bend in the middle. That puts it too close to the center of the axle.

Since I work at a machine shop that has bending dies and such, I thought about making a bar that went straight across between the lateral link arms since i don't have the leaf spring in the way......

 

I'd have to figure out some way of mounting it in the middle.

the bars are slightly different, the area approaching the ends of the bar

needs to be reworked. Our R&D department is quite busy right now, so please

understand as it may take a few weeks to get everything completed. I'm

interested to hear your ideas on strengthening the mounting brackets. Talk
