  1. My dad made the comment that i should grab a second car so im not feeling rushed when wrenching on the monte. I agreed. Been poking around and actually found two nice cars i actually like. 2001 regal gs Pros-clean as hell, most parts interchange with my monte, ive actually wanted a regal for a while, will make a good candidate for a regal 2-door conversion idea i had(hehehe) Cons-they have a price a lil high on it, previous body repair. 2008 impala ss Pros-5.3 , good color scheme(red/black), eeven cleaner than hell, decent price, would b an eventual ls4 donor for monte after car is beat up and the trans dies Cons-little interchange with monte, before mentioned trans weakness, more expensive parts Kinda leaning towards regal even tho the impala is a better deal

  3. I was thinking about adding a trans kit to my 4t60e. Any big benefits? http://www.transgo.com/products.php?prd=SK-4T60E-JR&homeinclude=catalog&category_id=105&parent_id=31&countdisplay=&start=&addcountview=Yes&product_id=220&prod_start=0
  4. Hey guys new to the forum. I have a 92 four door 3.1 lumina cream puff lol....it's pretty solid but the trans seems to not step down when slowing down. Hard for me to explain but let say I'm driving 40 mph then come up to a stop sign ect. After I stop its like in neutral...if I press the gas hard enough it will kinda slam into gear. Or if I'm driving and come up to a stop sign ect stop manually put it into netural then to drive works every time. Just extremely annoying.
  5. http://www.transtar1.com/ I have been cruising Google and I found this site put in the search perimeters. 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1L and it comes up with a list that has the Mclaren referenced. So when I get home I will email this place to find out more.
  6. I have a 94 GP 3100 4t60e. Is this model year trans able to use a 97 gasket, with the imbedded steel rather than just the cork? I'm guessing there was a slight design change in the trans gaskets?

  8. Hello fellaz, I just purchased my second Regal GS, and since I didn't mod my first one I plan on goin balls deep into this one. Anywho I bought the car knowing it needed a trans, but the price was one I couldn't refuse. I have a pretty good starting point. Super clean interior for a 98, only 122K on odometer, and a slew of new parts. Even already has a K&N cold air intake. Needless to say I'm on the hunt for my tranny first so any help would be greatly appreciated. Doesn't have to be low miles since I plan on rebuilding my original. Just wanna know the mileage and get a fair price. Also any modification ideas would be greatly appreciated. P.S what should I do before going to a smaller pulley on the SC?

  10. I am junking out my rusting black sedan and moving my 3800 to a rust free body and taking best of both cutlass into one. I'm not using my 3:43 trans anymore, delays going into gear and only get 18/19 mpg in town and 24-27 mpg highway. Reason #1- have a baby coming in sept and want dependable vehicle and Bonus- if I can optimize gas mileage as driver and vehicle we'd take on trips... option of trans. 1. 1996 3:05 FDR trans with 65k miles, 4t60e 2. 1988, 282 with all needed parts, except clutch How dependable are the 282 trans? What upgrades should I do to trans? Anyone use these with 3.5/3.8 engines that can tell me experience. Or If I use the 3:05 trans (already spare n selected for gas mileage), what would you recommend me doing before I install? Of course #1 goal is dependability, then Improved gas mileage. suggestions on which? Thoughts?
  11. OK I have a 96 cutlass supreme I'm putting in a 3800 sc from a 97 ssei what will I have to do I have trans wiring harness and computer so is there anything I should know or what works best any help I would be grateful for
  12. So I need to replace the transmission in my GP. It's a '94 SE 3100 v6 w/ the 4t60e. I'm assuming i can use any 4t60e from any W body from '94-'95 as long as it is equipped with the 3100 v6. I could be wrong about that though? What are some things I should look for in a junkyard transmission, other than low(ish) miles. I was going to drop the pan in any trans I deem may be suitable for my car to look for excessive clutch material or any abnormalities (burnt fluid, chunks of metal, etc). I was also going to replace all shift solenoids for added insurance. Thanks in advance guys!
  13. Hello W body family. 92 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, 3.1L. 161,123 miles The column shift only sometimes activates my backup lights. I found that tapping, wiggling or holding the shift lever slightly passed its seat will activate them. Issue within the last few weeks. Switch in column? or on trans? Thanks. Joe.

  15. Anybody ever put 17" trans am rims on grand prix? Look like the gp ones but the bolt pattern is slightly larger. http://www.allfactorywheels.com/products/1996%252d2002-Pontiac-Trans-Am-17%22-6521.html?origin=product-ads&gclid=CMTbv5PGtcICFQhk7AodUwMAOg http://www.allfactorywheels.com/products/1994%252d1996-Pontiac-Grand-Prix-16%22-6517.html
  16. i checked on a few fb pages b4 i l26 swapped....they all said an 01 montana had 3.29 gearing. do the swap and now the cel is still lit and the incorrect ratio code is still popping up. also av rpms at a given cruise speed ar 150-200 rpms higher than my olds trans(4t65 from an 01 monte ss that i kno had 3.29s) so what ratio does it actually have? i was guessing 3.43. and btw my pcm is from a 98 monte z34(l36/4t65 w/3.29) thanks
  17. Hey all, I've got a 1991 Cutlass Supreme 3.1 [T engine] with the 4T40 trans. I've had the car since my dad passed in '95, and it only has around 90K, with just a few parking lot 'dings'. Overall, it's been a great car...until last year. I'll be looking, and posting, hoping to find some tips/suggestions on how to figure out what's wrong/what to test, etc.--'cause the OBDI just doesn't set any codes to help. I have the original GM manuals for the car [3 vol. set], but there's just TMI:confused: in them without enough specific scenarios that match my current issue! Here's hoping y'all can give me some pointers.
  18. I am leeking fluid from around the trans mount. I have not pulled the mount out but that is the only place the fluid is. I found one of the bolts not all the way. are either of the holes go threw to inside the case so fluid could leek out.
  19. Hey hows it going guys my names Dan im from Huntington NY. I work as a technician at GMC truck in queens. I dont own a w-body yet but looking to get into one. I own a 88 Trans Am GTA with a vortec 5.7 crate motor in it, 90 K5 Blazer, and a 89 5 speed firebird that hasnt been started in 13 years. As if I dont have enough cars and here I am looking to get another
  20. I tried to search first, but it wasn't that helpful. Anyways, I've got a 4T60E that, when cold, doesn't like to shift from 2nd to 3rd. When manually placed in those gears, there is still some hesitation, and when it warms up, the problem becomes less frequent. The transmission was rebuilt at 172,000, and currently has around 114,000 on it after the rebuild...it does not throw any codes. Any help would be greatly appreciated, is this might determine the fate of its outcome...(daily driver to parked).
  21. Not even gonna bother giving a back story. Do the 4T60E trans on the 3100 interchange with the ones on the 3.4 TDC/DOHC? If not, what changes? What will be the worst that happens if I do a swap like this? I only ask because most cars in my local have the 3100. Also can a 96 trans go in a 94?
  22. what is the final drive ratio of the trans in an l36 equipped 99 bonneville? thanks
  23. After my earlier success with the passenger door handle. I really felt froggy and decided to tackle the engine and transmission mounts in my '95 GP SE. I got it done, it took me 2 days and a lot of praying and cussing (at the car), but I got it done. This is what the Engine mount looked like when I got in there. Here is a photo of some of what I pulled out of the pan the mount sits in. Here are a couple of photos of the new and old mounts side by side. Keep in mind this has been sitting in there for 19 years. Needless to say, after 2 days of working on this and several trips to Harbor Freight tools, I got them both in. It is SOOOOOO nice to not feel the dash vibrate when I'm driving. It feels like when I first got the car. Now I can hear all the other noises in the car I need to repair. After I got the trans mount out, I realized I didn't really need to replace it as it is a solid piece of rubber and not the crappy hydraulic on that was on the engine mount. Since I already was doing the other one, I decided to just go ahead and take care of the trans mount too.
  24. I have a 1993 Olds Cutlass Convertible. It has a 3.4L. I am looking for a diagnostic program like Datamaster. I have the cables to connect to my laptop, and I use the Datamaster program on my 1995 Trans Am, but I cannot find one for the 1993 Cutlass. I am having an issue with the engine shutting off. It happens at idle. It can happen when slowing down, or from a full stop accelerating slowly. It idles smooth. The Cutlass is dangerous as you do not know when this will happen. The radio or other items do not lose power. I need to record what is going on and then page through it.
  25. i have a 2000 park avenue with a 3.8 series 2 and a 4t65e? trans..i can purchase a trans out of a pontiac montana with a 3.4..will the swap work, gear ratios and everything? please help
