Best 1-1.5 gen struts/shocks?

I am thinking the struts and shocks on my '96 GP are the originals and it's got 232k on the clock. Bought the car today and it just kinda floats down the road. No sporty feel at all. I want the car to feel solid, not cushy like a 50's Cadillac. Also when I go over bigger road patches or splice lines in the road, I feel a slight "vibration" in the rear. What could cause that?

I was very happy with the KYB GR2 rear struts I had on my LQ1 Cutlass convertible...

I suspect the vibration from the rear is being caused by the severely rusted out mounts you showed in your other thread.  To be honest, I wouldn't worry about struts until you're able to repair the damage.

I also have had a great experience with KYB struts on my convertible.   Before I replaced them, the rear tires would actually bounce over bumps, maybe that's what you're feeling?

I also replaced my trailing arms and rear leaf spring isolator pads.   Your original rubber leaf spring isolator pads may be gone.  (Rockauto calls them "leaf spring bushings" and "leaf spring insulators" depending on whether you use plastic or rubber).

Front shocks helped, too, but not as much as the rear.   I also replaced by front sway bar bushings with poly, and upgraded my rear sway bar to a thicker one (cheap used one from a Z34), that's made a big difference cornering and gave it a sharper, more "sporty feel".

X2 on the KYBs and also everything old grimey said. Once you get the trailing arms fixed up you should do coil overs and lower it.

Haha nah, I'm gonna save the lowering for a car that is southern solid. This one is just gonna be a driver. I'll make it look a bit better but I'm not gonna dump a bunch of money into the suspension on this car. Jist want it to run/drive good.

I had Gabriel Ultra in my avatar Regal. They were not harsh or soft. With the wider tires that car took a corner like a basketball player. And they're no questions lifetime warranty but they have to come from a place you can walk into to use it.
