Looking to do an auto to manual trans swap. Any gen 1 wbody will work for this as long as the donor car has a v6. lumina Z34 91-93, Pontiac Grand prix 88-93, cutlass supreme 1988-1993. Would want all parts related to the manual trans install. master+slave cylinder, cv axles, trans mounts, clutch pedal, clutch switch, shifter assembly and linkage, trans itself, muncie 282 or unicorn getrag 284.  Im in BC, Canada so shipping will be a bugger but you never know. If anyone has all the parts for a 282 swap please let me know.

Good Luck, Not exactly sought after and too valuable to toss or get rid of for scrap so I imagine he still has the stuff.

The whole setup is different between a 282 and a 284. You need to find one or the other, but being a 91 GTP which has an LQ1 I would strongly suggest you find a 284 donor vehicle. The 282 will work but the 284 is much better suited for that engine, afterall GM engineered the two to work together.

the 282 is more than tough enough. Lots of Fiero guys run this with boosted engines pushing to 350 to 400hp. I’m not worried about it. You can put a lsd into a 282 and better clutch and good to go. The 284 is best but man it’s doubtful I’ll find one.

As someone who has actually done a 282 swap into a 92 GTP with 3./4 DOHC, a word of wisdom.

Everything fits, no issues, as long as you use all 282 stuff,  except the rear lower motor mount.  you will need to make a custom motor mount and intermediate shaft bracket.

The 282 has only an intermediate shaft bracket as the 2.8/3.1 use only 1 lower motor mount,

the 284 has the rear motor mount bracket and the intermediate shaft bracket in 1 as the 3.4 DOHC uses 2 lower motor mounts.

It's not difficult to fabricate, it's just a heads up as I was not aware of this when I did my swap.

Thanks for the info much appreciated. I’ve spent days literally looking for a good write up on this and most of the old ones are dead links. I’m under the impression you have to remove the brake booster and most of the dash to swap the pedal box to put the clutch and clutch switch in and also modify it the firewall to fit it in. Is that the case? I also read you can just add the pedal without that but no pics or a how to to back that up. CertAinly not afraid of the work here just like an idea how far it needs to go.

The 282 will hold up depending on how abusive one gets with the torque.

My son has a warmed over LA1 in his Fiero, a FWD 282 behind it, he has killed two casings (they grenade at the carrier bearing) when he launches out-of-the-hole at the strip (4000rpm). The case won't hold up to the sudden torque that's put thru it under those conditions.

A close friend runs around with an LT1 (warmed over) in HIS Fiero, he's considerably less abusive with the trans, so they will hold up, just don't get destructive with them.

I found a guy in Dallas using row52 thats going to a pick n pull there to take a look at a 88 GP SE with a 282 in it for me.  Seems like a long shot for him to get everything pulled for a reasonable amount.  Not sure of what he'd charge for the 5 speed bits minus the trans itself.  USPS wants 115 us to ship the small stuff and doesnt seem I can get them to take the trans as its to heavy so therefor very costly.  Will see how this goes. Also found a guy with a 92GTP locally but the chances of it being a manual with a 284 in it are very unlikely.  At least im a little closer to the goal.  Would also be nice to have a parts car to pull stuff the engine out of.

A crazy thought, maybe hit the 3800, w-body, and grand prix facebook groups. there will be a lot of people coming to the 3800 gathering in June. If you can find somebody who's going with the stuff you need you could pick them up and have a cool weekend.

Or just wait for Grandprix1 to decide to do a standard swap and then change his mind as soon as it gets there and buy his stuff, lol.

Do any of you know what's involved in getting the clutch pedal assembly box out? Is it really necessary to take most of the dash apart to get it out? Is the firewall plate on the engine side or cabin side and is the something I can fabricate or is it really necessary to get the own one? Just want to make i can give this part puller the correct info.

I took the clutch pedal box out of a 282 car once.... just once.... It required me to remove almost all of the dash. The firewall plate mounts on the engine side, but I think is bolted to the inside. It's been a long time since I pulled it. The other two I pulled I just left those parts in the car, and decided whoever I sold them too could figure it out. I had pulled it for a different car anyways that would need work.

Do you know the year + model of the car you took from??  Everything I've read says the dash can stay to get the pedal box in/out as long as its pre 94'.  I wish there weren't so many dead links here, been searching for weeks.  There used to be a lot of good write-ups but could only find one on a 97 monty.

Its all in how you want to do the swap. Quick and dirty or OEM

I've seen people just bolt in the clutch pedal and figgure out how to mount the clutch master.

I always pull everything and put the proper firewall plate in and do it 100% right. If you search my username enough I think I've photo-documented 4? 5 speed swaps on here now.

I've driven a 282 swapped 92' GTP, I wasn't a fan of how it behaved, second gear, I think... pulled like crazy... its been years now pulled like crazy but the 284s gearing is absolutely suited up better for the 3.4

I finally found some threads on here.  I was just using simple search which only goes back to 2012.  The advanced search allows to go back to 2007 and beyond.  once I discovered that I found 2 of your threads, 1 where you junked the white z34 and the other where you 5 speed swapped the black Z34, both have pictures so that's helpful .  Do you still have the black z34?  Looks like your into GP's now based on your sig.

Just to close this thread off I found a 284 5-speed swap for my car.

You can read up on that here: http://www.w-body.co...0-5-speed-swap/

Thanks to all those that posted.
