2.0 DIN in 1988-94 cutlass

Has anyone successfully installed a 2.0 DIN stereo in their 88-94 cutlass?

I'd really like to add an android 2.0 DIN head unit in my car this winter and prefer to install it in the stock location.

If I have to I'll remove the ashtray and cig lighter and move it into the spot below the heater controls but that's last option for me.

Thanks in advance!!

there was a thread in the electronics section about doing an Android in the dash about two years ago

Thanks! I've read that thread. It's in a 2nd gen Grand Prix tho. I'll use some of his tips on install and making it sound better. But am curious if it'll fit in the cutlass dash!

GnatGoSplat did it a long time ago.

Awesome! I'll search around shawns posts and see if I he did a thread on it or has any more detailed info!

Yeah, Grand Prixes were the only one that had 1.5 radios in the 2nd gen. Not sure why.

The problem with the 1st gens is that the space is limited. Gnat did it, but he had to cut up a lot of the inner dashboard to get it to fit right. It's something that can be somewhat scary.

Awesome! Thank you for that thread!

I think I'm going to have to come up with something a little different! I really appreciate you finding that thread!!

I used a Metra kit in a 90 GM Din and a half. Can put slot above or below radio depending where you have the most clearance. Have a Clarion CZ702 (changeable display colors) for Amp, Bluetooth, and min phone input.

On the GTP, I replaced an aftermarket mess with a stock cassette/equalizer radio that works with the SWC and a cassette>min phone with microphone adapter. It sounds a lot better than any RF adapter I tried.

Double-DIN is one of my favorite mods.  Gonna have to do it if I ever get another 1.5-DIN GM.  Tempted to swap an Android HU into the Cutlass.  Which ones were you looking at?  A company called Pumpkin seems to make a lot of them, but don't know if they're any good.  No recent reviews on the Marshmallow models.  They all seem to be full depth, though.  I don't know why they couldn't make them a lot shallower since optical drives are pretty much obsolete.

It's great to hear you really enjoy it!  I assume you've had no issues with the air ducting and air flow?

I'm not sure what unit yet. I'd like to keep it under $500 Canadian so I'm pretty sure that puts me in a Chinese unit. I just know this is a mod I'll be doing. Just wanted to see how someone has done it!

Assuming I install in factory location ill be following your directions!

No issues at all.  Can't even tell the airflow is reduced.  Objectively, it has to be reduced, seems impossible for it not to be, but I can't tell that it is.  Defog/defrost seem to work just as well as before.

Which unit are you looking at?

I have an android unit that I really liked... until the audio internals stopped working (bad soldering I think). Gnat, you want it to dink around with? I'll make you a deal lol

That's great to hear! I'm going to follow you're install and do the same in the spring!

I'm look at one of the joying 5.1 7inch screen units. But I'm not set on it by any means.
