So the gremlins have arrived. Running rough questions

My 95 GP developed what seems to be a misfire. Runs like crap. It will start and idle but when in drive it studders and runs awful. Tonight I thought it might be a coil. Swapped them out. No change. Tomorrow will check plugs. I wanted to ask of there's a way to retrieve codes on these cars? The check engine light doesn't come on, so I'm kinda thinking I have a bad sparkplug, or plugs. This has happened before but turned out to be a coil, but I swapped those out, so that doesn't seem to be the issue. Ugh......

Codes on a 95 are difficult to pull without proper equipment.

I would check for vacuum leaks, plugs, wires, injectors, ICM... which motor?

You only have 2 options to read codes on a 94 or 95 W body. You can get a Tech1 scanner or similar or buy an ALDL cable and download Tunerpro on your laptop and read the computer that way. The 2nd option offers monitors for stuff that can help identify issues that wouldn't be otherwise seen.

WHAT ENGINE???  What do you mean by "it studded"?

What is the fuel pressure when it "runs like crap"?  Idles, runs bad under load could be a lack of fuel.

ANY decent scan tool with the proper ALDL adapter will pull codes and--more importantly--read the data stream .  Doesn't take anything exotic to interface with a '95.   It takes NOT buying JUNK.  Unfortunately, there's a lot of consumer-grade junk "code readers" and scan tools.

OK so tested the coils, wires, and ICM. All checked good. Did replace the spark plugs while in there. So looks like the issue is not with the ignition. Replaced fuel filter as well. From here I have no idea what it could be. I have no check engine/service engine soon light on the dash. LooKS like I'm going to limp it over to the local shop and let them dick with it. Could be fuel injectors. Who knows. Tired of messing with it at this point. Plus maybe they will have a way to check for trouble codes where I cant. Hopefully it's an easy find and fix for someone who's good with cars. Me not so much.

you need to check the fuel pressure and see if it's got a bad fuel pump. Aside from that you could be looking at a cam sensor or crank sensor. there are several professional-quality scan tool that are available for OBD1 cars for a song right now. They're still out of state that a modern mechanic wouldn't have any use for it so they go pretty cheap. I'm guessing fuel pressure issue from what you said.

The 95s use a data stream not found in other ALDL cars, think an OBD-II stream but an ALDL bus. Easiest way is with a ALDL USB cable (e.g.from Motes.net), Tunerpro RT (real time), and a Windows PC/laptop/tablet.

Otherwise you will have to find someone with a professional scan tool (e.g. Tech-1) and a 95 cartridge.

W-body is at the shop. Driving the GTO for awhile. Love driving the 6.0 V8. Makes 80mph on the freeway seem effortless! Hopefully will find out what's wrong with the grand prix tomorrow. Thanks for the replies aND input!

94 and 95 actually. People like to call em "OBD1.5" because they're based off GM's OBD1 protocol but have OBD2 codes. So you can't use the paper clip method to pull the codes. Those 2 years code 35 on a 1993 and older car would be P0537 or something (not entirely sure of the actual code, but that seems to be a similar code to it)
