Window Tint 90 Cutlass

So I have been trying for a long time to get the back window of my 90 cutlass tinted. I cannot find someone that will or can do it. I had one guy try twice last week and nothing of it. They cannot make the side curve and the taper at the bottom of the window. My questions has anyone had this done? what should I request when I go in? Has anyone used spray tint like VHT nightshades on the back glass? finally what does it look like?

If they can do 80's Camaros, they should be able to do this.  Maybe they just can't do it in one piece?

That back window along with the old SL Saturns is notorious as one of the worst back windows to tint. 

 

I've heard of people having to do it in relatively small pieces to get it to work out, my best advise is keep looking around for someone who can though they will probably charge dearly for the service.

Most shops will not touch the 1G Cutlass sedans and Saturn SL sedans due to the odd curvature of the back glass.  You need to call around and find someone who has been doing it for a while and fully understands the car that you need done. You will pay $$$ for it.

Man that's disappointing to hear, I was considering attempting to tint the Cutlass this year but wasn't sure If I should try and keep the hair I have left and pay someone to do it or pull the rest out attempting to do it myself. Figured with the guts out It would be easier.

I had the windows on my old 91 CS International sedan tinted, but I had to drive an hour to someone who would do it for less than $800.

 

Half the shops I called told me their tint guy would quit if they took that job on.

 

The shop that ended up doing it in Toronto 3 pieced the back window, turned out OK.

They would quit because they only do easy stuff and don't have the guts and patience.  :P

 

I;ve had it done before, and had to explain that i'm ok with doing 2 sections for the back window, and also pulled out the rear deck panel for ease.

i guess im up a creek, no one out here seems to want to touch it because its 1. hard, 2. going to take a while, and 3. people that still have this car in sf bay area are considered "cheap" or "ghetto" and will come back saying that the tinter screwed something up just trying to get some cash from them. I had one guy say yeah come on down then looked at it and said yeah we dont work on cars "that style"

maybe you offer cash and 'no receipt'.  Then they don't have to worry about you coming back. :) 

 

By the way i love your year of car and the red stripe.  I'm thinking about looking for window trim from 1990 to switch

The coupes aren't hard to tint, just have more coverage area than your normal car.

 

While on the topic, my Lumina was 3 pieced at the rear glass for some reason. Not sure why.

 

To be clear this is only Cutlass sedans, the coupes aren't really a bit deal to do.

 

Yeah, if they can't tint a normal W coupe, there's a problem.

Go to a place that does custom stuff not just tint. I've tinted most of my cars in the hood or better said in shops in hood areas. Never had a problem this way. Beats going to those uppity places where they'll charge $400 to tint a fucking basic car like a Cavalier.

 

Hmmm try going to shops in Oakland or something. That or the Sac area.
