Am a bit bothered. Twice now I made an order with GMPartsEast  (they do have very good illustrations). First time the parts (all of them) were discontinued. The second time the prices were several hundred percent more and had to come from a different source. This is not good.

 

Used to be they only had very high shipping charges, now they are not even selling for the price they list (and they listed $112 for a $34 PROM but that was not enough).

 

Guess it is time to go junqueing.

I don't bother with them anymore.  They do that all the time.  And they can't be bothered to update their system to reflect the fact that these parts aren't available anymore.  If you have the part number, check around.  I've found stuff on ebay that was long since discontinued.

On a much smaller scale but still the same idea, AutoZone no longer carries the P/N to the older 3100 TB gasket, only the one to the 3400 which is slightly different. It works but it was unnerving to search one up in the system only to see NYA next to the gasket. I also found were we used to be able to order convertible stuff as well but its all been discontinued. Its like damn guys couldn't you just keep this old stuff in a warehouse until needed, but I forget that's not how the world works anymore.

Point I was making was that it was developed by an American, ignored in this country (of course at the time GM was concerned about having too large a market share), adopted by the Japanese, then US companies decided it wasn't so bad.

 

Lots of things like that - P-51 was a dog with an Allison so the US gave it to the Brits who put in a Merlin and had a world-beater. Buick couldn't figure out what to do with their Aluminum V-8 so gave it to Holden, was used by Jack Brabham to win the F1 championship, who sold it to the Rootes group for things like the Morgan +8.. For that matter the 3800 was designed by Buick, sold to AMC, and then bought back by GM.

Just in time production is fine and dandy in a perfect world, where machines don't break, and weather doesn't happen.

 

I'd rather have a bit of inventory and have a buffer when the unexpected happens

Last year I was able to get 35 mpg @ 40mph on my scangauge. This year I have the new transmission and a working T.C.C and it's showing 40mpg @ 40mph.

Does anyone else see crazy fuel economy at 40mph with an l67?
