Whats that funny strap attached to driver's sun visor on these cars/

These convertibles have a long seat belt type strap wound around the sun visor. One can unfurl it and then have like a two foot long hoop of a strap hanging in driver's face. I've seen them in photos on other member's verts. Anyone know what they're for? Also would like to see, hear anyone's solution to the cupholder problem in these early verts. The later model verts have what looks like a rudimentary holder. Don't know it they're any good. A company makes an apparatus that is supposed to fit inside where an ashtray would go and has true cupholder capability. I saw one on there designed for the huge ashtray opening of like a 69 Malibu that looks like it could be adapted to fit in that "storage Hole" on 92 vert dashboard. Also wonder if console from later model would even fit in this correctly? I WANT A CUPHOLDER!

My '95 has two cupholders...but that's because the interior was redesigned in '95. Finding the two little inserts was tough.

My Camaro was designed before the cupholder craze hit, but I've considered getting these:

They don't look terrible when they're folded up, and put away, but they are kind of pricey.

Yeah the strap on the visor was just to hold stuff like paperwork or maybe sunglasses. Over time the elastic loses its elasticity and sags.. mine is just pinned. As for a cup holder, maybe look for something like this http://www.westcoastcorvette.com/p-2398-corvette-dual-cup-holder-travel-buddy-1997-2004-c5-z06.aspx

First you go to the grocery store and buy broccoli.

Take the big elastic off of the broccoli and throw the broccoli away.

Put the elastic around your broken 94 and earlier CS cupholder, BAM fixed.

Those aren't bad. I do have some burgundy interior spray paint, I could paint exterior of it to match pretty good. Hmm. Okay. Thanks  for all of the suggestions, (even the flippant ones) you guys.

Hey, Sean 1991olds, Thanks, these are some great ideas. I like that no drilling into car  required on this model.
