This is my ride and recently toasted three speakers. Both rear and drivers door. Have replaced with Sony Xplod speakers but concerned the monsoon amp might do in this set. Any idea where the amp is located? Might bypass it and put in a new radio, my deck is loosing illumination!

i don't think a stock amp would toast those speakers, if your deck is losing illumination i would think either your alternator is beginning to fail or it's just your speakers drawing a lot of power

How long a speaker lasnts depends a lot on what type of music you listen to. If you listen to bass heavy music, the speakers will take more of a beating than if you listen to acoustic music. The same holds true to volume levels. Cranking up the speaker all the way will damage the speaker quickly than if you have it at a reasonable level.

The stock monsoon speakers are made of paper from the factory. They blow easily, and usually sound like crap even in good shape.

The monsoon amp needs 2 ohm speakers all around except for the rear midranges, and front tweeters. I'd make sure the speakers you have are at least rated for around 50 watts RMS and you should be okay. If they're not 2 ohm speakers, you might want to consider replacing them with 2 ohms since it will deliver more power and risk less damage to the amp.

Personally I think the monsoon system is a great system with poor speakers from the factory. I have it in my Regal with an aftermarket head unit and it sounds AMAZING. I'm thinking the aftermarket head unit had a lot to do with that too.

If I were you, I'd replace the stock head unit and see how it sounds before bypassing the amp.

The monsoon amp itself is underneath the rear deck. It's the black box that hangs there.

I hate grave digging but I hate my factory monsoon head unit. I want an aux port and have a pioneer head unit that's not very old just hanging around. Can I use it without bypassing all the factory stuff? I like the monsoon system. It sounds decent. I don't blast music really. I just want a better head unit.

You could have made your own thread. It's not like you're on the same topic anyways.

You should be able to do a simple swap with a wiring harness as long as you have the standard GM radio harness. You can swap the radio without having to bypass the factory amp. The main thing is making sure the amp turn on lead from the car is connected to the aftermarket radio.
