KAlsteen Posted November 25, 2013 Report Share Posted November 25, 2013 Just over the last few weeks the security light keeps coming on when I start my car and will sometimes stay on until I turn the car back off. It has happened on both myself and my husband and we each have our own set of keys for the car, my set being only 6 months old, so I don't think that it's a bad chip in the key. RobertISaar Posted November 25, 2013 Report Share Posted November 25, 2013 most likely that the VATS/PASSKEY system is about to cause you more trouble.... along the lines of intermittently being able to even crank the engine. depending on what is about to fail, you could force the system into fail-enable mode to prevent that from happening. the security light will always be on, but at least you won't be left stranded. RobertISaar Posted November 25, 2013 Report Share Posted November 25, 2013 while the engine is running(preferably for at least a minute or so), disconnect the two wires that run up to the key cylinder. let the engine run for a few minutes after that(it takes a minimum of 60 seconds to detect the situation) and the passkey module will drop into and stay in fail-enable mode. at that point, any key that is cut correctly will start the car. i want to say the wires that need disconnected are in a unique orange jacket and a disconnect point is right near the bottom of the column. i could look to verify tomorrow if necessary. tornado_735 Posted November 25, 2013 Report Share Posted November 25, 2013 Robert is correct. This will eventually strand you if you do not nip it in the butt now. The wires are in an orange jacket. You may need long fingernails or a thin flathead screwdriver to be able to get the connector apart. It's right underneath the dashboard. If memory serves, the connector is small, and there is a black sheath over the orange wires (just slide the sheath back a bit to show the orange). This "fail-enable" is "anti-theft failed, start enabled". Basically means someone can now steal your car if they want lol Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have never got to address/fix this issue, turn the key and NOTHING. Really sucks when you are in a high speed chase, pull over to get gas, and then....AIR! Something about the car thinking it's being stolen, so it doesn't turn over at all. Has also stranded my Beautiful wife for more times than I want to recall... White93z34 Posted November 29, 2013 Report Share Posted November 29, 2013 On my Bonneville ( I know, not a w, but same system) I had mine fail. I just got a multimeter, measured out the resistance of the pellet in the key and purchased a resistor equal to its value, pulled the wires down from under the dash, cut the 2 going into the column and soldered the resistor into the car-side ones. been a few years trouble free now. tonytoca_87 Posted June 28, 2016 Report Share Posted June 28, 2016 I'm having the same issue with my 95 vert. The security light stays on. I noticed the light after I changed the multifunction switch. So after reading this topic I'm concerned that it will leave me stranded.
